Who created Allah??

This then led me back to the question about Allah (swt)'s creation. I hope Allah forgives me if asking this question alone is a major sin for me but I have been curious about how the "picture without a painter" approach doesn't apply in this context.

Through all the research I've done I have found out that he is the first and the last, there was nothing before him and nothing after him he is the one and only creator of everything. And that Allah tells us not to question of that which we have no knowledge. But I as a person need some sort of explanation or I'm afraid I might be lead to the wrong track that is why I thought I should ask here.

Brother your situation and answer to that is given in following hadiths....

Sahih Muslim Bk 1, Number 0242:
It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: Men will continue to question one another till this is propounded: Allah created all things but who created Allah? He who found himself confronted with such a situation should say: I affirm my faith in Allah.

Sahi Bukhari 4.496:
Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, "Satan comes to one of you and says, 'Who created so−and−so? 'till he says, 'Who has created your Lord?' So, when he inspires such a question, one should seek refuge with Allah and give up such thoughts."

Quote:
I guess I was too scared to ask it because it might be gunaah
Sahi Muslim Bk 1, Number 0239:
It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that some people from amongst the Companions of the Apostle (may peace be upon him) came to him and said: Verily we perceive in our minds that which every one of us considers it too grave to express. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Do you really perceive it? They said: Yes. Upon this he remarked: That is the faith manifest.

Quote:
But the main point I was trying to get to was that if everything needs a creator
No brother every thing does not require creator.......Correct statement is "Every created thing requires creator"....... and Allah by definition is uncreated (Surah Ikhlas)

For example - suppose Mr X delivered a child.......its boy or a girl??? can u guess???

Exactly.......How can a man give birth to a child??
So the question whether the child is a boy or girl is void ab initio!!

Similarly Allah by definition is uncreated...so the question who created is void ab initio!

Hope this helped

The Economic Terrorism: But No One is Terrified

The Economic Terrorism: But No One is Terrified

by Nisaar Y. Nadiadwala on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 11:38am
Few years back a news paper headlines form Midday struck my eyes: Unable to repay loans,More than 5000 defaulters in New Mumbai.......We are observing a new system of slavery in today’s world. In this system people have willingly  sold their financial liberty to Banks, Financial institutions and money lenders. Indeed it is very sad to accept that most of the people’s financials liberty is held and controlled by various financial Institutions and banks through housing loans, personal loans, credit cards and what ever other loans they have taken.

We are in an age where the economic system has a tremendous impact on our individual lives as well as on the whole society. Our choices, our tastes, our fashion, our food, our entertainment, our culture our national policies as well as international politics are influenced by conventional economic system.
The components of this economic system are banks, insurance, credit cards, as well as advertising and marketing world.

So what’s wrong with this system?

This system seems to be prosperity oriented but is it actually? In fact, scholars have already spoken vociferously against this economy stating that this financial system is creating more problems than solving. In fact we are seeing an emergence of slavery, as well as transformation of an entire civilization in to extravagant resulting in mass depression suicides, divorces, besides this, the  present economy strives on obscenity. Let us examine main hazards of this economy system.

  Mountainous loans

Whether it is the Indians, or Americans or Europeans, slavery is being revived almost globally. Individuals, local governments, as well as nations are burdened under mountainous debt. An average American has around 5,500 US$ as debt on his head, Great Britain itself has to pay around 2 trillion pounds to its creditors, this is worse than the economic condition during World War II.

One of the Indian state Maharastra has 12 thousand crores of debt to be paid as per the budget of 2008, the budget said that around 13 % of the state’s income goes in Interest.

How much loans are people taking?  In India housing loan is the biggest factor for domestic debt. In 1991, the total housing loan was 3,300 crore and in 2005 the total soared up to 1 lac 35 thousand crores. Besides this personal loans for marriage and other small business went up to 2 lac and 58 thousand crore.

According to USA Today’s survey the greatest fear in US was not terrorism but the fear of running out of money during retirement. Today, the Americans are one of the most unsecured people in the world. Today due to economic meltdown, they have job insecurities which results in social insecurities leading to divorces, adultery, fornications, and domestic violence. This results in a hostile society where we receive news about people committing suicide or killing their whole families.

The Moral of the story? Lets learn from the Qur'an itself :
Nor strain thine eyes in longing for the things We have given for enjoyment to parties of them the splendor of the life of this world through which We test them: but the provision of thy Lord is better and more enduring.
(Surah Taha ch 20 verse 131)

Truth Of Nation Of Islam

Truth Of Nation Of Islam

"Nation of Islam' has nothing to do with Islam (its better to call this as "Not Of Islam" ).....Wn Malcolm X went for Haj he was surprised that he was sitting, eating, drinking with white people n they treat him like brother not as a black.....there he found True teachings of Islam n comes to knw the reality of this grp which propagates hate....... left this ..and wn h tried to expose them ........he paid the price.....

Prophet is the seal of prophets.....No new prophet will come after him!!

Quran 33 40.
Múhammad is not the father of [any] one of your men, but [he is] the Messenger of Allah and seal [i.e., last] of the prophets. And ever is Allah, of all things, Knowing.

any one who believes contrary is out from the purview of Islam.

(As nation of Islam Believes that Elijah Muhammed is messenger Of  Allah......naouzubillah)

This group promotes hate n believes  in superiority of Blacks....which is against fundamental teachings  of Islam
Quran 49:13.
O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.

Last Sermon Of Prophet Mohammmed
All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over black nor does a black have any superiority over white except by piety and good action. Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood.

They claim that they are true Islam.

There is nothing like True Islam/False Islam/Modern Islam/Moderate Islam...

Its just "ISLAM".......following Quran n Authentic sunnnah..

Nation Of Islam has rejected the verse of Quran...how can they claim to be true..

They even Call Malcolm X as kafir as he left their  group.....

In Islam there r no blessings in declaring other Kaafir (very common these days)...but there r severe consequences if the person isnt in the eyes of Allah bcz the kufr comes back to the caller (in that case).

Sahi Bukhari bk 73
8.125.1: Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, "If a man says to his brother, O Kafir (disbeliever)!' Then surely one of them is such (i.e., a Kafir)."

Sahi Muslim
Bk 1, Number 0117: It is reported on the authority of Ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah (may peace and blessings be upon him) said: Any person who called his brother: or unbeliever (has in fact done an act by which this unbelief) would return to one of them. If it were so, as he asserted (then the unbelief of man was confirmed but if it was not true), then it returned to him
(to the man who labeled it on his brother Muslim).

The reason why I become Muslim by Hany Fann

The reason why I become Muslim

by Hany Fann on Monday, April 25, 2011 at 5:55pm

Lately, I was questioned by a lot of people (muslim and non-muslim) about the reason why I want to become Muslim. People who don't know me asked me because they are curious. People who know me well asked me because they care about me and happy for me. People who know me but not so well didn't even ask me and just immidiately judge me by their wrong perceptions. This note is to explain everything and to tell you my story truthfully. As I said on my banner, "You know my name, not my story".

First, I want to send a message to you before you read this note. To my friends who support me and understand me: thank you so much for always being there with me, respect my choice and support me. Without you, I can't be this strong to overcome everything. To people who judged me in a wrong perception: I know you have your own reason to judge me in your way. What I want to ask you is please put yourself in my shoes and think why I have to choose a tough way to go? Why a Vietnamese girl chose to become a Muslim right before she goes back to Vietnam, a non-muslim country? Why she chose to become a Muslim when she knows that her Vietnamese friends, her society will most likely treat her in a different way? After you have those questions settle in your mind, then please continue to read my story.

I'm a Vietnamese from Vietnam, a country where the perception about Islam is still very blur, only 0.075% of the population is Muslim. What Vietnamese know about Islam are through news: war in Afganistan, terrorist in Russia, USA, etc. All those things together created a very bad image of Islam in Vietnam. And no one wants to know more or wants to figure out the truth because they don't care. I used to be like that too, and I don't blame people who is thinking the way I did before because I understand how strong media can affect people's perception.

Then I came to Malaysia, a Muslim country to study for 2 years and I went to Indonesia to do my internship there for 2 months. My Muslim friends in these two countries more or less have changed my point of view about Islam. They are friendly, warm-hearted and kind people, there are nothing in them can be related to terrorists. But there were still some cultures and rules of Islam that I found it's hard to accept and understand. At this moment, I still thought if one day I decide to convert into any religion, Islam wouldn't be my priority.

Then I met a guy, a Muslim guy and we felt in love with each other (at this moment we didn't know bf/gf is not allowed in Islam). He was the one who showed me most beautiful things about Islam and answered all my questions about Islamic cultures and rules. For e.g: I finally understand why Muslim girls cover their body. I used to think they were forced to do so, now I know they do that for themselves to protect and save their beauties for the right man for their lives. I realized that Islam is a beautiful religion which wants to create a pure and beautiful world without any sins, that's also the answer for all the rules in Islam. The religion is beautiful itself, just bad people do bad things in the name of the religion. And that what is happening around the world right now. That moment is the moment I cleared my misunderstanding about Islam, but still I didn't see the necessary of becoming a Muslim.

Then one day, my bf (let's call him so even we r not bf/gf anymore :P) came back from a Friday pray, he cried and told me we can no longer talk to each other or see each other until we get married (if that happen) due to the religion's reasons. He felt guilty and upset about himself, and I understood that he would never do anything to break my heart, and I didn't want to see him bearing the sins because of me. So I agreed not to see him or talk to him anymore. But then I felt uncomfortable and I wanted a clearer answer. I started to do some research about Islam.

At first, I only googled about Islamic things which are related to boy and girl relationships to answer my questions. Until one day, I found a book called "The Holy Qur'an and Mordern Sciences", the book was so amazing that I read the whole book in 1 night. It explained how Mordern Science discovered things that were written in Qur'an 1,400 years ago, like the Big Bang, the fetus creation and development, etc. All those things, in my perception, can't be written by a normal person. How can a ancient person 1,400 years ago can probably know about the Big Bang? They didn't even know about whether the Earth is round or square. How can they wrote about the fetus creation and development at that time when only thousand years later, mordern people can see the whole process by the support of all the high-tech equipments? I was so amazed and that was the time when I started believe in God.

And I started to talked to God, asked him for some signal. And believe or not, those signals keeps coming to me. I know HE is there and I started to believe in The Day of Judgement. I believe that Islam is a true religion from God.

I talked to my mum about I want to convert to Muslim. She didn't agree at first since like I said, Vietnamese have a very wrong perception about Muslim. But then I opened the Qur'an, and also my Muslim friend told me that, God wants you to know that you should worship God alone and serve your parents. I looked back at my past and I felt so bad about myself. I wasn't a good daughter to my mum at all. I took her for granted and hurted her so many times. I thought loving me was her responsibility. Now I realized she has no responsibility to sacrify all her life for me nor love me with all her heart. Once I realized, I called her and ask about her health problem, care about her in the way that I should do for 21 years until now. Then she asked me why I'm so different. I told her because that's what God teaches me to do. I asked her to listen to me with an open-minded mind, to understand why I believe in Islam and why I want to become a Muslim that much. I asked her to give me a chance to prove that Islam will only can make me become a better person, a better daughter to her. And finally my mum agreed :).

After my mum agreed, my faith is so strong. I have nothing can stop me from believing in God. I learned how to pray, I read Qur'an in my free time and I even read Islam's stories as a way to release my study stress. And I planned to convert on 2nd of May (don't ask me why, just a date that I think it's beautiful :P). Then yesterday night, I used a facebook application called "Message from God" (this is also the one which delivered me so many amazing messages from God which always suitable for my current situations). The message said: "On this day, God wants you to know that decision is only wishful thinking until you take that first irreversible step. You can tell yourself that you have already decided, that nothing now can stop you, but if that step backwards is so much safer than step forwards, what will hold you true to your path when the going gets tough? Sometimes, the right thing to do is to take that first irreversible step, the one after which you cannot go back. And now, for you, is one of those times". I'm not gonna comment anything about this message anymore :)

That's also the reason why I decided to convert tomorow :). Some of you may ask me to think more, to check whether I'm ready for it or not. I would like to answer that, once you believe in God, there's nothing such as ready or not ready to be closer to God. Once I accept God and Islam in my life, I'm willing to obey every rules and cultures of Islam in order to be closer to God, to be forgiven by His Mercy.

So please come to the Masjid (Mosque) tomorrow at 7pm if you can to be with me in my most important turn of my life :).

Btw, my Islamic name is Aisha :)

Oh, another thing, some may think I'm converting because of the guy I love. I'm sorry to upset you, but I do this for the love of God. This is the biggest decision of my life which will affect my whole life. I won't make it because of anyone. And start from this moment we won't meet and talk to each other anymore. So please understand and respect my decision.

Thank you if you read the whole thing until this spot :P

P/S: Special thanks to Muhammad Iqbal, who showed me the right path to God and heaven, and Abeer Sadary who always be there and support me :). The "thanks" only can't describe enough how much I owed you.

Thanks everyone who is always there to support me in my big decision :)

Non Muslim Praying like Muslim & beliving in God.

Posted by Rehana
Asalamwalaikum brothers and sisters..Recently i posted a question regarding this non-muslim sister asking me if it's alright to pray like a muslim etc and i gave her a answer to it and now she's asking me this which i need help with...

"I am praying because I believe in God and it's good for me. I am praying to God and I am praying for myself, my friends, and others in the world, to do good in school. I pray similar to a Muslim but I had to change the prayer style because I don't know it, so it's a little different. I pray five times a day whenever I can and I do make du'a sometimes and I recite a Christian prayer that I was taught "Our Father." I want to know is it ever ok in Islam to convert to better learn about the faith and be more involved even if your not sure and there is a chance I may convert back to my faith?"

JazakaAllah-khair!
wa alykum as salam,

Believing in on true Almighty God is just the first step....bcz as far as belief is concerned evn kuffars of Makkah believe in Allah but they associate partners to him

Quran 29:61
If you asked them, "Who created the heavens and earth and subjected the sun and the moon?" they would surely say, "Allah." Then how are they deluded?

Quran 31:25
And if you asked them, "Who created the heavens and earth?" they would surely say, "Allah." Say, "[All] praise is [due] to Allah"; but most of them do not know.

Quran 39:38
And if you asked them, "Who created the heavens and the earth?" they would surely say, "Allah." Say, "Then have you considered what you invoke besides Allah? If Allah intended me harm, are they removers of His harm; or if He intended me mercy, are they withholders of His mercy?" Say, "Sufficient
for me is Allah; upon Him [alone] rely the [wise] reliers."

we have to follow the commandments without associating any partners.......... Otherwise belief is meaningless ...Its clearly mentioned in Quran many times "obey Allah obey the messenger".

Quran 4:48.
Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills. And he who associates others with Allah has certainly fabricated a tremendous sin.

We have to pray as per the commandments of Allah..... as prayed by Prophet ..... as he ordered "Pray As u v seen me praying".
any prayer that is not as per the way of Prophet will be rejected..for eg in Fajr prayer there are 2 rakah farz if any one wants to make it better n start reading 4 rakah farz(compulsory)......thats not as per the way of prophet .

Quran 5:92.
And obey Allah and obey the Messenger and beware. And if you turn away – then know that upon Our Messenger is only [the responsibility for] clear notification.

Quote:
I recite a Christian prayer that I was taught "Our Father."
Did Allah taught all these???
NO.
This is the way of unbelievers who believe in triune God(Trinity) ........

Quran 4:171.
O People of the Scripture, do not commit excess in your religion or say about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, was but a messenger of Allah and His word which He directed to Mary and a soul [created at a command] from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers And do not say, "Three"(TRINITY); desist – it is better for you. Indeed, Allah is but one God. Exalted is He above having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs.

and they have declared Jesus (pbuh) as his son(naouzubillah) .......
Quran 19
88. And they say, "The Most Merciful has taken [for Himself] a son."
89. You have done an atrocious thing.
90. The heavens almost rupture therefrom and the earth splits open and the mountains collapse in devastation
91. That they attribute to the Most Merciful a son.
92. And it is not appropriate for the Most Merciful that He should take a son.

This is shirk.........

Quote:
I want to know is it ever ok in Islam to convert to better learn about the faith and be more involved even if your not sure and there is a chance I may convert back to my faith?
If by this she means learning more abt Islam then it is incumbent upon each n every muslim to learn abt his faith n become a better muslim & human being......

"Converting back to sisters faith"
........ Remove Paulinity from bible n read in a proper context its nothing more than Islam..... Accepting Islam doesn't mean accepting new faith it means coming back to ur original faith.

If by this she means accepting prayers n rituals of other faiths......then its not permissible..Our religion is complete..
Quran 5:3 This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion.

We v to accept things n follow as Allah want us to(not as per our own desires n convenience).......Enter into Islam completely not in parts...

Quran 2:208
O you who have believed, enter into Islam completely [and perfectly] and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy.

Quran 2:85
So do you believe in part of the Scripture and disbelieve in part?

There were some people who were trying to be better...by over burdening them n deviating from sunnah.....Prophet stopped them....

Sahih Bukhari Vol 7 Book 62
7:1 Narrated Anas bin Malik: A group of three men came to the houses of the wives of the Prophet asking how the Prophet worshipped (Allah), and when they were informed about that, they considered their worship insufficient and said, "Where are we from the Prophet as his past and future sins have been forgiven." Then one of them said, "I will offer the prayer throughout the night forever." The other said, "I will fast throughout the year and will not break my fast." The third said, "I will keep away from the women and will not marry forever." Allah's Apostle came to them and said, "Are you the same people who said so−and−so? By Allah, I am more submissive to Allah and more afraid of Him than you; yet I fast and break my fast, I do sleep and I also marry women. So he who does not follow my tradition in religion, is not from me (not one of my followers).

Sister is coming near to Islam step by step........She has taken the first step and we pray to Allah to open her heart n make things easy for her.

Aameen

Quran 2:142
"He guides whom He wills to a straight path."

THE MIRACLE OF AZAAN

THE MIRACLE OF AZAAN

In world map we will find Indonesia on the eastern side of the earth. The major cities of Indonesia are Java, Sumatra, Borneo and Saibil. As soon as dawn breaks on the eastern side of Saibil, at approximately 5:30 am local time, Fajar Azaan begins. Thousands of Muazzins in Indonesia begin reciting the Azaan. The process advances towards West Indonesia . One and a half hours after the Azaan has been completed in Saibil, it echoes in Jakarta . Sumatra

Then follows suit and before this auspicious process of calling Azaan ends in Indonesia, it has already begun in Malaysia .. Burma is next in line, and within an hour of its beginning in Jakarta, it reaches Dacca, the capital city of Bangladesh . After Bangladesh , it has already prevailed in western India , from Calcutta to Srinagar . It then advances towards Bombay and the environment of entire India resounds with this proclamation. Srinagar and Sialkot (a north city in Pakistan) have the same timing for Azaan.

The time difference between Sialkot , Quetta , and Karachi is forty minutes, and within this time, Fajar Aazaan is heard throughout Pakistan .. Before it ends there, it has already begun in Afghanistan and Muscat . The time difference between Muscat and Baghdad is one hour. Azaan resounds during this one hour in the environments of Hijaaz-e-Muqaddas (Holycities of Makkah and Madinah), Yemen , United Arab Emirates , Kuwait and Iraq .

The time difference between Baghdad and Alexandria in Egypt is again one hour. Azaan continues to resound in Syria, Egypt, Somalia and Sudan during this hour.  The time difference between eastern and western Turkey is one and a half hours, and during this Alexandria and Tripoli (capital of Libya) are located at one hour's difference. The process of calling Azaan thus continues throughout the whole of Africa.

Therefore, the proclamation of the Tawheed" and "Risaalat" that had begun in Indonesia reaches the Eastern Shore of the Atlantic Ocean after nine and half hours. Prior to the Aazaan reaching the shores of the Atlantic, the process of "Zohar Azaan" has already started in east Indonesia, and before it reaches Dacca, Asr Azaan" has started.

This has hardly reached Jakarta one and half hours later, the time of "Maghrib" becomes due, and no sooner has "Maghrib" time reached Sumatra, the time for calling "Isha Aazaan" has commenced in Saibil! When the Muazzins of Indonesia are calling out "Fajar Azaan", the African Muazzins are calling the Azaan for Isha.

Love in Islam

Love

Praise be to Allaah.

Islam came to close the doors that lead to evil and sin, and is keen to block all the means that may lead to corruption of hearts and minds. Love and infatuation between the sexes are among the worst of problems.

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in Majmoo’ al-Fataawa (10/129):

Love is a psychological sickness, and if it grows strong it affects the body, and becomes a physical sickness, either as diseases of the brain, which are said to be diseases caused by waswaas, or diseases of the body such as weakness, emaciation and so on. End quote.

And he (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in Majmoo’ al-Fataawa (10/132):

Loving a non-mahram woman leads to many negative consequences, the full extent of which is known only to the Lord of people. It is a sickness that affects the religious commitment of the sufferer, then it may also affect his mind and body. End quote.

It is sufficient to note that one of the effects of love of a member of the opposite sex is enslavement of the heart which is held captive to the loved one. So love is a door that leads to humiliation and servility. That is sufficient to put one off this sickness.

Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in Majmoo’ al-Fataawa (10/185):

If a man is in love with a woman, even if she is permissible for him, his heart remains enslaved to her, and she can control him as she wishes, even though outwardly he appears to be her master, because he is her husband; but in fact he is her prisoner and slave, especially if she is aware of his need and love for her. In that case, she will control him like a harsh and oppressive master controls his abject slave who cannot free himself from him. Rather he is worse off than that, because enslavement of the heart is worse than enslavement of the body. End quote.

Attachment to the opposite sex will not happen to a heart that is filled with love of Allaah; it only affects a heart that is empty and weak, so it is able to gain control of it, then when it becomes strong and powerful it is able to defeat the love of Allaah and lead the person into shirk. Hence it is said: Love is the action of an empty heart.

If the heart is devoid of the love and remembrance of the Most Merciful, and is a stranger to speaking to Him, it will be filled with love of women, images and listening to music.

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in Majmoo’ al-Fataawa (10/135):

If the heart loves Allaah alone and is sincerely devoted to Him, it will not even think of loving anyone else in the first place, let alone falling in love. When a heart falls in love, that is due to the lack of love for Allaah alone. Hence because Yoosuf loved Allaah and was sincerely devoted to Him, he did not fall into the trap of love, rather Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Thus it was, that We might turn away from him evil and illegal sexual intercourse. Surely, he was one of Our chosen, (guided) slaves”

[Yoosuf 12:24]

As for the wife of al-‘Azeez, she was a mushrik as were her people, hence she fell into this trap. End quote.

The Muslim must save himself from this fate and not fall short in guarding against it and ridding himself of it. If he falls short in that regard and follows the path of love, by continuing to steal haraam glances or listening to haraam things, and being careless in the way he speaks to the opposite sex, etc, then he is affected by love as a result, then he is sinning and will be subject to punishment for his actions.

How many people have been careless at the beginning of this problem, and thought that they were able to rid themselves of it whenever they wanted, or that they could stop at a certain limit and not go any further, until the sickness took a strong hold and no doctor or remedy could help?

Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in Rawdat al-Muhibbeen (147):

If the cause happens by his choice, he has no excuse for the consequences that are beyond his control, but if the reason is haraam, the drunkard had no excuse. Undoubtedly following one glance with another and allowing oneself to keep thinking about the person is like drinking intoxicants: he is to be blamed for the cause. End quote.

If a person strives to keep away from the things that lead to this serious sickness, by lowering his gaze and not looking at haraam things, not listening to haraam things, and averting the passing thoughts that the shaytaan casts into his mind, then after that something of the evils of this sickness befalls him because of a passing glance or a transaction that is basically permissible, and his heart becomes attached to a woman, there is no sin on him for that in sha Allaah, because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Allaah burdens not a person beyond his scope”

[al-Baqarah 2:286]

Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in Majmoo’ al-Fataawa (11/10):

If that does not result from carelessness or transgression on his part, then there is no sin on him for what befalls him. End quote.

Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in Rawdat al-Muhibbeen (147):

If love occurs for a reason that is not haraam, the person is not to be blamed, such as one who loved his wife or slave woman, then he separated from her but the love remained and did not leave him. He is not to be blamed for that. Similarly if there was a sudden glance then he averted his gaze, but love took hold of his heart without him meaning it to, he must, however, ward it off and resist it. End quote.

But he must treat his heart by putting a stop to the effects of this love, and by filling his heart with love of Allaah and seeking His help in that. He should not feel too shy to consult intelligent and trustworthy people for advice or consult some doctors and psychologists, because he may find some remedy with them. In doing that he must be patient, seek reward, remain chaste and keep quiet, and Allaah will decree reward for him in sha Allaah.

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in Majmoo’ al-Fataawa (10/133):

If he is tested with love but he remains chaste and is patient, then he will be rewarded for fearing Allaah. It is known from shar’i evidence that if a person remains chaste and avoids haraam things in looking, word and deeds, and he keeps quiet about it and does not speak of it, so that there will be haraam talk about that, whether by complaining to another person or committing evil openly, or pursuing the beloved one in any way, and he is patient in obeying Allaah and avoiding sin, despite the pain of love that he feels in his heart, just as one who is afflicted with a calamity bears the pain of it with patience, then he will be one of those who fear Allaah and are patient,

“Verily, he who fears Allaah with obedience to Him (by abstaining from sins and evil deeds, and by performing righteous good deeds), and is patient, then surely, Allaah makes not the reward of the Muhsinoon (good‑doers) to be lost” [Yoosuf 12:90]. End quote.

An introduction to Islam

An introduction to Islam
By Bilal Philips

What is Islam?

Islam is not a new religion, but the same truth that God revealed through all His prophets to every people.  For a fifth of the world’s population, Islam is both a religion and a complete way of life.  Muslims follow a religion of peace, mercy, and forgiveness, and the majority have nothing to do with the extremely grave events which have come to be associated with their faith.

Who are the Muslims?
One billion people from a vast range or races, nationalities and cultures across the globe - from the southern Philippines to Nigeria - are united by their common Islamic faith. About 18% live in the Arab world; the world’s largest Muslim community is in Indonesia; substantial parts of Asia and most of Africa are Muslim, while significant minorities are to be found in the Soviet Union, China, North and South America, and Europe.

What do Muslims believe?
Muslims believe in One, Unique, Incomparable God (called Allah in Arabic); in the Angels created by Him; ; in the Angels created by Him; in the prophets through whom His revelation were brought to mankind; in the Day of Judgement and individual accountability for actions; in God’s complete authority over human destiny and in life after death.  Muslims believe in a chain of prophets  starting with Adam and including Noah, Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Job, Moses, Aaron, David, Solomon, Elias, Jonah, John the Baptist, and Jesus, peace be upon them.  But God’s final message to man, a reconfirmation of the eternal message and a summing-up of all that has gone before was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) through Angel Gabriel.

How does someone become a Muslim?
Simply by saying ‘there is no god worthy of worship besides God (Allah), and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. By this declaration the believer announces his or her faith in all God’s messengers, and the scriptures they brought.

What Is Ka'bah? The Ka’bahah is the place of worship which God commanded Prophets  Abraham and Ishmael to build over Four thousand years ago. The building was constructed of stone.

Who is Muhammad?
Muhammad (pbuh ) was born in Makkah in the year 570, at a time when Christianity was not yet fully established in Europe.  Since his father died before his birth, and his mother shortly afterwards, he was raised by his uncle from the respected tribe of Quraysh.  As he grew up, he became known for his truthfulness, generosity and sincerity, so that he was sought after for his ability to arbitrate in disputes.  The historians describe him as calm and meditative.
Muhammad (pbuh) was of a deeply religious nature, and had long detested the decadence and idolatry of his society.  It became his habit to meditate from time to time in the Cave of Hira near the summit of Jabal al-Nur, the ‘Mountain of Light’ near Makkah.
How did he become a prophet and a Messenger of God?
At the age of 40, while engaged in a meditative retreat, Muhammad ( pbuh ) received his first revelation from God through the Angel Gabriel.  This revelation, which continued for twenty-three years, is known as the Qur’an.
As soon as he began to recite the words he heard from Gabriel, and to preach the truth which God had revealed to him, he and his small group of followers suffered bitter persecution, which grew so fierce that in the year 622 God gave them the command to emigrate.  This event, the Hijirah, [migration], in which they left Makkah for the city of Madeenah some 260 miles from Mekkah.
How did the spread of Islam affect the world?
Among the reasons for the rapid and peaceful spread of Islam was the simplicity of its doctrine. Islam calls for faith in only One God worthy of worship.  It also repeatedly instructs man to use his powers of intelligence and observation.
Within a few years, great civilizations and universities were flourishing, for according to the Prophet ( pbuh ) , ‘seeking knowledge is an obligation for every Muslim. The synthesis of Eastern and Western ideas and of new thought with old, brought about great advances in medicine, mathematics, physics, astronomy, geography, architecture, art, literature, and history.  Many crucial systems such as algebra, the Arabic numerals, and also the concept of the zero (vital to the advancement of mathematics), were transmitted to medieval Europe from Islam. Sophisticated instruments which were to make possible the European voyages of discovery were developed, including the astrolabe, the quadrant and good navigational maps.
What does ‘Islam’ mean?
The Arabic word ‘Islam’ simply means ‘submission’, and derives from a word meaning ‘peace’.  In a religious context it means complete submission to the will of God. ‘Mohammedanism’ is thus a misnomer because it suggests that Muslims worship Muhammad ( pbuh ) rather than God.  ‘Allah’ is the Arabic name for God, which is used by both Arab Muslims and Arab Christians alike.
Why does Islam often seem strange?
Islam may seem exotic or even extreme in the modern world.  Perhaps this is because religion does not dominate everyday life in the West today, whereas Muslims have religion always uppermost in their minds, and make no division between secular and sacred.  They believe that the Divine Law, the Sharee‘ah, should be taken very seriously, which is why issues related to religion are still so important.

Do Islam and Christianity have different origins?
No. Together with Judaism, they go back to the prophet and patriarch Abraham, and their three prophets are directly descended from his sons - Muhammad from the eldest, Ishmael, and Moses and Jesus from Isaac.  Abraham established the settlement which today is the city of Makkah, and built the Ka‘bah towards which all Muslims turn when the pray.
God commanded Abraham to summon all mankind to visit this place, and when pilgrims go there today the say ‘Here I am O Allah’, in response to Abraham’s summons.
What is the Qur’an?
The Qur’an is a record of the exact words revealed by God through the Angel Gabriel to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).  It was memorized by Muhammad (pbuh) and then dictated to his Companions, handwritten down by scribes, who cross-checked it during his lifetime. Not one word of its 114 chapters, Suras, has been changed over the centuries, so that the Qur’an is in every detail the unique and miraculous text which was revealed to Muhammad (pbuh)  fourteen centuries ago.
What is the Qur’an about? The Qur’an, the last revealed Word of God, is the prime source of every Muslim’s faith and practice.  It deals with all the subjects which concern us as human beings: wisdom, doc-trine, worship, and law, but its basic theme is the relationship between God and His creatures.  At the same time it provides guidelines for a just society , proper human conduct and an equitable economic system.
Are there any other sacred sources?
Yes, the sunnah, the practice and example of the Prophet (pbuh), is the second authority for Muslims.  A hadith is a reliably transmitted report of what the Prophet (pbuh) said, did, or approved.  Belief in the sunnah is a fundamental part of the Islamic faith.
Examples of the Prophet’s sayings
The Prophet (pbuh) said:
God has no mercy on one who has no mercy for others.’
‘None of you truly believes until he wishes for his brother what he wishes for himself.’
‘He who eats his fill while his neighbor goes without food is not a true believer.’
“The truthful and trusty businessman is associated with the prophets, the saints, and the martyrs.’
‘Powerful is not he who knocks the other down, indeed powerful is he who controls himself in a fit of anger.’
‘God does not judge according to your bodies and appearances but He scans your hearts and looks into your deeds.’
‘A man walking along a path felt very thirsty.  Reaching a well he descended into it, drank his fill and came up.  Then he saw a dog with its tongue hanging out, trying to lick up mud to quench its thirst.  The man saw that the dog was feeling the same thirst as he had felt so he went down into the well again and filled his shoe with water and gave the dog a drink.  God forgave his sins for this action.’  The Prophet (pbuh) was asked: ‘Messenger of God, are we rewarded for kindness towards animals?’ He replied, ‘There is a reward for kindness to every living thing.’
From the hadith collections of Bukhaaree, Muslim, Tirmithee and Bayhaqee.

What are the ‘Five Pillars’ of Islam?
They are the framework of the Muslim life: faith, prayer, concern for the needy, self-purification, and the pilgrimage to Makkah for those who are able.

1. FAITH
There is no god worthy of worship except Allah and Muhammad is His messenger.  This declaration of faith is called the Shaahadah,  a simple  formula which all the faithful pronounce.  In Arabic, the first part is la ilaaha il - lal - ’laah-’ there is no god except Allah’; ilaaha  (god) can refer to anything which we may be tempted to put in place of God-wealth, power, and like.  Then comes il - lal - ‘laah:’  except Allah’, the creator of all things  The second part of the Shahaadah   is Muhammadun rasoolul-laah ‘Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.’ A Message of guidance has come through a man like ourselves.

2. PRAYER

Salaah is the name for the obligatory prayers which are performed five times a day, and are a direct link between the worshipper and God. There is no hierarchical authority in Islam and no priests, so the prayers, are led by a learned person who knows the Qur’an, chosen by the congregation.  These five prayers contain verses from the Qur’an, and are said in Arabic, the language of the Revelation, but personal supplication can be offered in one’s own language. Prayers are said at dawn, noon, mid-afternoon, sunset and nightfall, and thus determine the rhythm of the entire day.  Although it is preferable to worship together in a mosque, a Muslim may pray almost anywhere, such as in fields, offices, factories and universities.  Visitors to the Muslim world and struck by the centrality of prayers in daily life.
A translation of the Call to Prayer is:
Allah is most great.  Allah is most great.
Allah is most great. Allah is most great.
I testify that there is no god except Allah.
I testify that there is no god except Allah.
I testify that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.
I testify that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.
Come to prayer! Come to prayer!
Come to success (in the life and the Hereafter)! Come to success!
Allah is most great. Allah is most great.
There is no god except Allah.

3. THE ‘ZAKAAH’

One of the most important principles of Islam is that all things belong to God, and that wealth is therefore held by human beings in trust.  The word zakaah means both ‘purification’ and growth’.  Our possessions are purified by setting aside a proportion for those in need, and, like the pruning of plants, this cutting back balances and encourages new growth.
Each Muslim calculates his or her own zakat individually.  For most purposes this involves the payment each year of two and a half percent of one’s surplus savings.
A pious person may also give as much as he or she pleases as sadaqah, and does so preferably in secret.
Although this word can be translated as voluntary charity’ it has a wider meaning.  The Prophet (pbuh)  said
‘even meeting your brother with a cheerful face is charity.’
The Prophet (pbuh) said: ‘Charity is a necessity for every Muslim.’  He was asked’ What if a person has nothing?’ The Prophet (pbuh) replied: ‘He should work with his own hands for his benefit and then give something out of such earnings in charity.’  The Companions asked: ‘What if he is not able to work?’ The Prophet (pbuh) said: ‘He should help poor and needy persons.’  The Companions further asked, ‘What if he cannot do even that?’ The Prophet (pbuh) said’ He should urge others to do good.’  The Companions said ‘What if he lacks that also?’ The Prophet (pbuh) said’ He should check himself from doing evil. That is also charity.’

4. THE FAST

Every year in the month of Ramadaan, all Muslim fast from first light until sundown, abstaining from food, drink, and sexual relations.
Those who are sick, elderly, or on a journey, and women who are pregnant or nursing are permitted to break the fast and make up an equal number of days later in the year.  If they are physically unable to do this, they must feed a needy person for every day missed.  Children begin to fast (and to observe the prayer) from puberty, although many start earlier.
Although the fast is most beneficial to the health, it is regarded principally as a method of self purification.  By cutting oneself off from worldly comforts, even for a short time, a fasting person gains true sympathy with those who go hungry which leads to growth in one’s spiritual life.

5. PILGRIMAGE (Hajj)

The annual pilgrimage to Makkah the Hajj - is an obligation only for those who are physically and financially able to perform it.  Nevertheless, about two million people go to Makkah each year from every corner of the globe providing a unique opportunity for those of different nations to meet one another.
Although Makkah is always filled with visitors, the annual Hajj begins in the twelfth month of the Islamic year (which is lunar, not solar, so that Hajj and Ramadan fall sometimes in summer, sometimes in winter).  Pilgrims wear special clothes: simple garments which strip away distinctions of class and culture, so that all stand equal before God.
The rites of the Hajj, which were begun by Prophet Abraham, include circling the Ka’bah seven times, and going seven times between the mountains Safaa and Marwah as Hager did during her search for water.  Then the pilgrims stand together on the wide plain of ‘Arafah and join in prayers for God’s forgiveness, in what is often thought of as a preview of the Last Judgement.

In previous centuries the Hajj was an arduous undertaking.  Today, however, water, modern transport, and the most up-to-date health facilities are provided for the millions who take part in the pilgrimage.

The close of the Hajj is marked bya festival, ‘Eed al-Ad-haa, which is celebrated with prayers and the exchange of gifts in Muslim communities everywhere.  This, and the ‘Eedal-Fitr, a feast-day commemorating the end of Ramadan, are the main festivals of the Muslims’ calendar.

Does Islam tolerate other beliefs?
The Qur’an says:
Allah does not forbid you with regards to those who do not fight you for [your]  faith nor drive you out of your homes, from dealing kindly and justly with them; for Allah loves those who are just. (Qur’an, 60:8)
It is one function of Islamic law to protect the privileged status of minorities, and this is why non-Muslim places of worship have flourished all over the Islamic world.  History provides many examples of Muslim tolerance towards other faiths: when the caliph Omar entered Jerusalem in the year 634, Islam granted freedom of worship to all religious communities in the city.
Islamic law also permits non-Muslim minorities to set up their own courts, which implement family laws drawn up by the minorities themselves.
SIN: According to Islam, man is not born in ‘original sin’. Every child is born with an innate disposition towards virtue, knowledge, and beauty.  Islam considers itself to be the ‘primordial religion’, it seeks to return man to his  original, true nature in which he is in harmony with creation, inspired to do good, and confirming the Oneness of God.
What do Muslims think about Jesus?
Muslims respect and revere Jesus (r), and await his Second Coming.   They consider him one of the greatest of God’s messengers to mankind. The Qur’an confirms his virgin birth (a chapter of the Qur’an is entitled ‘Mary’), and Mary is considered the purest woman in all creation.  The Qur’an describes the Annunciation as follows:
‘Behold!’ the Angel said, ‘God has chosen you, and purified you, and chosen you above the women of all nations.  O Mary, God gives you good news of a word from Him, whose name shall be the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, honored in this world and the Hereafter, and one of those brought near to God.  He shall speak to the people from his cradle and in maturity, and shall be of the righteous.’
She said: ‘O my Lord! How shall I have a son when no man has touched me?’  He said: ‘Even so; Allah creates whatever He wills.  When He decrees a thing, He says to it, “Be!” and it is.’ (Qur’an, 3:42-7)
Jesus (r) was born miraculously through the same power which had brought Adam (r)  into being without a father:
Truly, the likeness of Jesus with God is as the likeness of Adam.  He created him of dust, and then said to him, ‘Be!’ and he was. (3:59)
During his prophetic mission Jesus (r) performed many miracles. The Qur’an tells us that he said:
‘I have come to you with a sign from your Lord: I make for you out of clay, the figure of a bird, and breathe into it and it becomes a bird by Allah’s leave.  And I heal the blind, and the lepers, and I raise the dead by Allah’s leave.(3:49)
Neither Muhammad (r) nor Jesus (r) came to change the basic doctrine of the belief in One God, brought by earlier prophets, but to confirm and renew it.  In the Qur’an Jesus (r) is reported as saying that he came:
‘To attest the law which was before me.  And to make lawful to you part of what was forbidden you; I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, so fear Allah and obey Me.’
(3:50)
The Prophet Muhammad (r)  said:
‘Whoever believes there is no god but God, alone without partner, that Muhammad (r) is His messenger, that Jesus is the servant and messenger of God, His word breathed into Mary and a spirit from Him, and that Paradise and Hell are true, shall be received by Allah into Heaven.’
(Hadith from Bukhaaree)

Why is the family so important to Muslims?
The family is the foundation of Islamic society.  The peace and security offered by a stable family unit is greatly valued, and seen as essential for the spiritual growth of its members.  A harmonious social order is created by the existence of extended families; children are treasured, and rarely leave home until the time they marry.

What about Muslim women?
Islam sees a woman, whether single or married, as an individual in her own right, with the right to own and dispose of her property and earnings.  A marriage dowry is given by the groom to the bride for her own personal use, and she keeps her own family name rather than taking her husband’s.
Both men and women are expected to dress in a way which is modest and dignified.  Women are required to cover all of their body except for the face and hands in order to protect their modesty and honor.
The Messenger of God (pbuh) said:
"The most perfect in faith amongst believers is he who is best in manner and kindest to his wife."
Can a Muslim have more than one wife?
The religion of Islam was revealed for all societies and all times and so accommodates widely differing social requirements.  Circumstances may warrant the taking of another wife but the right is granted, according to the Qur’an, only on condition that the husband is scrupulously fair.
Is Islamic marriage like Christian marriage?
A Muslim marriage is not a ‘sacrament’, but a simple, legal agreement in which either partner is free to include conditions.  Marriage customs thus vary widely from country to country.  As a result, divorce is not common, although it is not forbidden as a last resort.  According to Islam, no Muslim girl or boy can be forced to marry against their will: their parents will simply suggest young men or women they think may be suitable.

How do Muslims treat the elderly?
In the Islamic world there are no old people’s homes.  The strain of caring for one’s parents in this most difficult time of their lives is considered an honor and blessing, and an opportunity for great spiritual growth.  God asks that we not only pray for our parents, but act with limitless compassion, remembering that when we were helpless children they preferred us to themselves.

Mothers are particularly honored: the Prophet (pbuh) taught that ‘Paradise lies at the feet of mothers’.  When they reach old age, Muslim parents are treated mercifully, with the same kindness and selflessness.

In Islam, serving one’s parents is a duty second only to prayer, and it is their right to expect it.  It is considered despicable to express any irritation when, through no fault of their own, the old become difficult.

The Qur’an says: ‘Your Lord has commanded that you worship none but Him, and be kind to parents.  If either or both of them reach old age with you, do not say ‘Uff’ to them or chide them, but speak to them in terms of honor and kindness.  Treat them with humility, and say, ‘My Lord! Have mercy on them, for they cared for me when I was little’. (17:23-4)

How do Muslims view death?
Like Jews and Christians, Muslims believe that the present life is only a preparation for the next realm of existence.  Basic articles of faith include: Resurrection the Day of Judgment, Heaven and Hell.
When a Muslim dies, he or she is washed, usually by a family member, wrapped in a clean white cloth, and buried preferably the same day. Simple prayers following Muslims consider this one of the final services they can do for their relatives, and an opportunity to remember their own brief existence here on earth.  The Prophet (pbuh) taught that three things can continue to help a person even after death; charity which he had given, knowledge which he had taught and prayers on their behalf by a righteous child.
What does Islam say about war?
Like Christianity, Islam permits fighting in self-defense, in defense of religion, or on the part of those who have been expelled forcibly from their homes.  It lays down strict rules of combat which include prohibitions against harming civilians and against destroying crops, trees and livestock.  As Muslims see it, injustice would be triumphant in the world if good men were not prepared to risk their lives in a righteous cause.  The Qur’an says:
‘Fight in the cause of God against those who fight you, but do not transgress limits.  God does not love transgressors.’ (2:190)
If they seek peace, then you should also seek peace.  And trust in Allah for He is the One that hears and knows all things. (8:61)
War, therefore, is the last resort, and is subject to the rigorous conditions laid down by the sacred law.
The term jihaad literally means’ struggle’, and Muslims believe that there are two kinds of jihaad.   The outer struggle against the forces of evil and corruption and the inner struggle which everyone wages against egotistic desires, for the sake of attaining inner peace.
What about food?
Although much simpler than the dietary law followed by Jews and the early Christians, the code which Muslims observe forbids the consumption of blood, pork and any kind of intoxicating substances.  The Prophet taught that ‘your body has rights over you’, and the consumption of wholesome food and the leading of a healthy lifestyle are seen as religious obligations.
The Prophet (pbuh) said:
‘Ask God for certainty [of faith]  and well-being; for after certainty, no one is given any gift better than health!’

How does Islam guarantee human rights?

Freedom of conscience is laid down by the Qur’an itself: ‘There is no compulsion in religion’. (2:256)
The life and property of all citizens in an Islamic state are considered sacred whether a person is Muslim or not. Racism is incomprehensible to Muslims, for the Qur’an speaks of human equality in the following terms:
‘O mankind! We created you from a single soul, male and female, and made you into nations and tribes, so that you may come to know one another.  Truly, the most honored of you in Allah’s sight is the greatest of you in piety.  Allah is All-Knowing,
All-Aware. (49:13)

Islam in the United States?
It is almost impossible to generalize about American Muslims: converts, immigrants, factory workers, doctors, all are making their own contribution to America’s future.  This complex community is unified by a common faith, underpinned by a countrywide network of more than a thousand mosques.
Muslims were early arrivals in North America.  By the eighteenth century there were may thousands of them, working as slaves on plantations.  These early communities cut off from their heritage and families, inevitably lost their Islamic identity as time went by.  Today many Afro-American Muslims play an important role in the Islamic community.
The nineteenth century, however, saw the beginnings of an influx of Arab Muslims, most of whom settled in the major industrial centers where they worshipped in hired rooms.  The early twentieth century witnessed the arrival of several hundred thousand Muslims from Eastern Europe: the first Albanian mosque was opened in Maine in 1915; others soon followed, and a group of Polish Muslims opened a mosque in Brooklyn in 1928.
In 1947 the Washington Islamic Center was founded during the term of President Truman, and several nationwide organizations were set up in the fifties.  During the fifties through seventies there was a great influx of Muslims from India and Pakistan who today represent a major segment of immigrant American Muslims.  From the early twenties until the seventies a few Pseudo-Islamic organizations have appeared among indigenous Muslims using Islamic terminology to cover racist un-Islamic teachings: The nation of Islam (commonly called “Black Muslims”), The Moorish Science Temple, The Ansarullah.
Although they have always remained a small but vocal minority, some of their spokesmen continue to tarnish the image of Islam until today.  Today the Muslim population in America is estimated  by researchers at five to eight millions.
