Islamic quotes on Death & the Hereafter

1-Hamid al-Qasyrasi (rahimahullah) said:
“Though we know death is certain, we have not prepared ourselves for it.
Though we know paradise is definite, we have not worked for it.
Though we know the hell fire is certain, we have not feared it.

So why are you delighted?
What are you waiting for?
Death is the first visitor from the Almighty bringing good or evil tidings… so get closer to your Lord!”

2- It is narrated that ‘Uthmân b. Áffân – Allâh be pleased with him – said in a sermon:
Son of Adam! Know that the angel of death who has been assigned to you has not ceased to pass you and move on to others, ever since you have been in this world. But it is as if he is about to pass someone else and move on to target you, so be careful and prepare for him (by correcting your deeds). And do not forget him, for he does not forget you. And know o son of Adam, if you are heedless about yourself and do not prepare, no one else will prepare for you. You must meet Allah the Mighty and Majestic, so take for yourself and do not leave it to someone else. Peace be on you.Abû Bakr Al-Daynûrî, Al-Mujâlasah wa Jawâhir Al-Ílm 2: 73, 74.

3- Allaah says,
“Everyone shall taste death. And only on the day of Resurrection shall you be paid your wages in full. And whoever is removed away from the fire and admitted to Paradise he indeed is successful. The life of this world is only the enjoyment of deception (a deceiving thing).” (Aal-‘Imraan 3: 175)

“Wherever you may be, death will overtake you, even if you should be within towers of lofty construction…” ( An-Nisa 4:78)
Such is the reality of death and what comes after it. Every one of us shall taste it whether poor or rich; healthy or sick, old or young; leader or led and none of us can escape it.

"Indeed, to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth; He gives life and causes death. And you have not besides Allah any protector or any helper." ( Tawbah 9:116)

"He gives life and causes death, and to Him you will be returned." (Yunus 10:56)
We all will return to Allah only and besides him there is no protector or helper.

[For such is the state of the disbelievers] until, when death comes to one of them, he says, "My Lord, send me back. That I might do righteousness in that which left behind.” No! It is only a word he is saying; and behind them is a barrier until the Day they are resurrected. (Al-Kahf 18:99-100)

Say, "The angel of death will take you who has been entrusted with you. Then to your Lord you will be returned." If you could but see when the criminals are hanging their heads before their Lord, [saying], "Our Lord, we have seen and heard, so return us [to the world]; we will work righteousness. Indeed, we are [now] certain."
(As-Sajdah 32:11-12)

So WHY do we act like death is not near? Why do we try to ignore thinking of death when it can come to us at ANY second!

It may be that we are alive now but that we will not be tomorrow. So prepare NOW and let us not ignore the inevitable!

4- The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said:
"He who loves his worldly life will harm his Hereafter. And he who loves his Hereafter will harm his worldly life. Give preference then, to that which is eternal (The Hereafter) over that which is temporary". (Ahmed)

He also said: "Wise is he who controls his desires & prepares for the life which starts after death, and wretched is he who makes himself a slave to his desires and has false expectations of Allah". (Tirmidhi)

The Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) said, "O Allah! There is no life worth living except the life of the Hereafter... (Bukhari)

5- A dead person is followed by 3 things
The Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) said, "When carried to his grave, a dead person is followed by three, two of which return (after his burial) & one remains with him: his relative, his property, & his deeds follow him; relatives & his property go back while his deeds remain with him." (Bukhari Vol. 8 : No. 521)

If we were to die right now then what would become of us? Surely then we must take action now, for any of us could fill the next grave!

6- Abu Darda said:
"If only you knew what you will certainly see upon your death, you would never again eat a single bite out of a craving appetite, and you would never again drink an extra sip of water for the pleasure of unquenchable and insatiable thirst.

Hence, you will remain outdoor in perpetuity, bewildered and awaiting the unexpected, and you will never again seek comfort in a shelter or seek a shade. You will wander aimlessly and climb the hilltops of every mountain, you will look up towards the heavens and beseech your Lord for mercy, and you will beat on your chest and cry endlessly, and you will wish that you were a little vegetable – a plant which is protected to grow, and then plucked to be eaten by a hungry person passing along.”

7- Narrated Abu Huraira (Radi-Allahu 'anhu): Allah's Apostle (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) said, "If you knew that which I know you would laugh little and weep much." (Bukhari Vol. 8 : No. 492).
