What else Should We Learn besides Gathering Knowledge?

Surah al Ahzab says: In the Messenger is the best example for you to follow.... We just take a few examples and assume that we are following in toto. Some of our followings are just restricted to the acts of worship but we discard akhlaaq, where as some of us focus on spirituality and discard correct creed. Most of us pick up only those things from the life of the Prophet which are convenient for us in following. The rest we leave aside.  Once I posed this question to one of my audience " How many of you have read or read the Translation of the Qur'an and books of hadith regularly ? Many of them raised their hands. My next question was : How many of you can  give a burial bath to a dead?  Only one or two hands were raised.

How many of us can lead a salatul Janazah or give a burial bath to a dead body ? We leave it to the ulema though we are suppose to know it if we are in the field of Dawah. There is no preistdom in Islam. It is not required to be an extremly well versed scholar for a Da'ee with good knowledge that once he finds that there is no one to lead  the salatul Janazah or a burial bath to dead and he says I cant !  Many of us don't even know how the Eid prayers are to be offered that is why before every Eid the Imam explains the way of offering salah !

At times it happens that a female Muslimah dies and people run here and there to find out if there is some female who can give burial bath to the dead. Many among the females, recite and listen to a lot of Qur'an and Islamic lectures though when it comes to an emergency they are unable to implement what they have learnt..Learning of deen should not  be restricted to  verses and hadith but proper implementation of certain issues related to our day to day life.

The Prophet a.s. taught well and his companions learnt well . They were warrirors when required and gave burial bath when required. They slaughtered animal for scarifice. Even Aisha r.a. the wife of the Prophet a.s. used to slaughter animal for sacrifice, where as many young men among us are afraid to do so.

Not learning deen and not implementing what you have learnt can cause wrong thing to creep into our culture and way of life those putting the akhera of of people in danger through innovations.  Let Da'wah centers organise workshops for teaching how to give a burial bath to the dead and other essential things that will help in promoting authentic Islamic teachings during certain times.
