Barah Ibn Malik was a fierceful warrior. He had killed 100 warrirors in one to one combat ! Can you percieve his strength and skills in fights? We dont see such warriors in Hollywood also. Anas bin Malik was his younger brother.. He was a scholar of Islam par excellent. He ranks among the first four sahaba who narrated maximum hadith from the Prophet peace be upon him. Both were the companions of the Prophet peace be upon him..Radiallahu anhoom..Both had same mother..Umme Sulaim.. There are also other merits of this noble lady.
Both her sons Anas and Bara were the sons of a disbeiliving father. The man did not accept Islam and also did not approve his wife Umme Sulaim to teach Islam to his sons. But the lady da'ee continued persistingly trying to invite her husband to Islam and her sons too. One day her husband died in a journey. She was proposed by many dignitaries of Arabia and Abu Talha who was still not a Muslim also proposed her. She said O Abu Talha! No doubt you are a wonderful man but I cannnot marry you because I am a Muslim and you are not,If you become a Muslim I will marry you and that will be my Mahr.So Abu Talha inquired about Islam and accepted it..Later on when he contributed to Islam in a grand manner she used to say... I have received the best mahr on the earth.
And she was right. Talha r.a. gave an immense contribution to Islam. He accompanied the Prophet peace be upon him in every ghazwa, battle. This woman also participated in all the gazwa along with her husband. She was more than a home maker. A warrior,a compassionate mother..In one of the expedition she was in her ninth month of pregnancy ! In every batttle she carried a dagger to be ready for an unexpected sudden combat.
They were blessed with a young boy Abu Umair. He was a beloved child and even the Prophet peace be upon him loved to play with him. One day the child was sick and and it remain sick for a long time. Every evening Abu Talha returned home and inquired about his child. One day the child died. Umme Sulaim did not inform her husband that evening. Rather she beautified herself and gave a wifely pleasure to her husband at night.
The next morning she broke the news of the death politely. Abu Talha got upset and reported the matter to the Prophet peace be upon him and to his surprise the Prophet prayed that the night be a blessing for them ! It turned into a blessing. A son was born and from that son they got grandchildren in large numbers and each one was either a scholar of den or a warrior! This reminds me that beautiful Qur'anic verse : Allah has made from your selves mates for you and from your mates he created children and hafadha...... Hafadha means grandchildren d the moral ,and psychosocial strength that brings joy to you from your children.
This is what you called a blessed woman. Who wouldnt like to be like them?
