Are we Committed to our Community?

Are we Committed to our Community?

by Nisaar Y. Nadiadwala on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 6:33 He is my neighbour and we stay in a Muslim locality. He works in a prominent Gujarati Daily newpaper in the editorial department. We meet in local Masjid. He is updated with all current events happening in the world and the Mumbai city itself. But he has never heard the name Dr Zakir Naik ! Nor does he know about the Peace Conference in Mumbai ! As far as the Muslims in the media goes it is not that we are a bankrupt community deprived of our voices but our yellers and shouters yell and shout for the other things besides Islam. Among the finest sports writer of India is a Muslim who covers and analyses International events. Among the Political writers, there is a Muslim male and a female pair who ran Asian Age daily newspaper for  along time and they  stand a tall stature in their field. There are Muslims writers and reporters here and there and every where. But very few of them give a commitment to their community. There are many who are not even aware of things happening to our community/

These types of communty lists are posessed and taken as a momento  by every communty. The Gujarati commmunity have people who take up their cause up tp the Central Government. They struggled hard to fulfil their community commitments. They have their own Kutchi Travellers Association who struggle for facilities in train, they run umpteen numbers of charity hospitals, colleges schools and other things. I remember way back in early eightees . the Indian army stormed in the Golden Temple to flush out some miitants, the Sikh community responded uannimously. Even those who did not agree with militancy protested. Khushwant singh resigned from the Rajya Sabha. We will not go deep into this affair, but the moral is : are we really giving out best to our community? or even a little ?

We are given sources and methods to be in touch with our communty five times a day. It is made compuslory for us to share 2.5 percent of our saved wealth with the poor and the needy. We are given so many assurances and glad tiding repeatedly in the noble verses of the Qur'an and Hadith the virtues of good acts towards our Muslim brothers. Whoever removes a hardship from his Muslim brother, Allah will remove a hardship from him on the day of Qiyamah. Even a smile at our Muslim brother is encouraged and promised ample reward. Our communty commitment is made so easy that it is allowed to lie inorder to cause a compromise between two fighting Muslims !

Infact acccording to Surah Imran verse 110.. we are commited to the entire humanity...But charity begins at home. Every Muslim is a volunteer for his community.. he is commited to the welfare of his community where ever he stays...The question is...but are we committed ?
