SALAM - Salaam - The Divine Way Of Greeting

SALAM - ThDivine Way Of Greeting

A greeting is something that we say or do upon meeting someone or passing by them.

HOW THE SALAAM (GREETING) BEGAN.
Narrated Abu Hurairah [radhi-yAllâhu 'anhu]: The Prophet [sal-Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam] said, "Allâh created Adam in His Image, sixty cubits (about 30 meters) in height. When He created him, He said (to him), 'Go and greet that group of angels sitting there, and listen what they will say in reply to you, for that will be your greeting and the greeting of your offspring.' Adam (went and) said, 'As-Salaamu 'Alaykum (peace be upon you).' They replied, 'As-Salaamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullah (Peace and Allâh's Mercy be on you).' So they increased 'wa Rahmatullah.' “
(Sahih Bukhari)

Allah(swt) says in Quran

Holy Quran (Saheeh International translation)
4:86. And when you are greeted with a greeting, greet [in return] with one better than it or [at least] return it [in a like manner]. Indeed Allah is ever, over all things, an Accountant.

In above verses Allah orders us that if any one greets us we should greet him back with better or at least with same greetings.

Some one greets you with
Reply (At least)
Reply (Better)
As salam wa alaikum.
As salam wa alaikum.
As salam wa alaikum wa rehmatullah
As salam wa alaikum wa rehmatullahu wa barkatuhu
As salam wa alaikum wa rehmatullah
As salam wa alaikum wa rehmatullah
As salam wa alaikum wa rehmatullahu wa barkatuhu
As salam wa alaikum wa rehmatullahu wa barkatuhu

As salam wa alaikum wa rehmatullahu wa barkatuhu

As salam wa alaikum wa rehmatullahu wa barkatuhu

Practice of saying salutation by saying As salam wa awaikum is the mean to acheive faith
Saheeh Muslim
 Bk 1, Number 0096:
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah (may peace and blessing be upon him) observed: You shall not enter Paradise so long as you do not affirm belief (in all those things which are the articles of faith) and you will not believe as long as you do not love one another. Should I not direct you to a thing which, if you do, will foster love amongst you: (i. e.) give currency to (the practice of paying salutation to one another by saying) as−salamu alaikum.

Abu Hurairah said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say, 'The rights a Muslim has over another Muslim are five." He was asked, "What are they?" He replied, "When he meets him, he should greet him, When he gives him an invitation, he should accept. When he asks him for advice, he should give him good counsel. When he sneezes and praises Allah, he should wish him mercy. When he is ill, he should visit him. When he dies, he should accompany him."
(Bukhari, Al Adab Al Mufrad)

At-Tufayl ibn Ubayy ibn Ka'b related that he used to visit 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar and would go with him to the market. He said, "When we went to the market, 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar did not pass by any rubbish collector nor merchant nor poor person nor anyone else without greeting them."(Bukhari)

'A'isha reported, "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, ''A'ish! This is Jibril who sends you greetings.' I said, 'And peace be upon him and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. You see what I do not see." By that she meant the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. (Bukhari)

Abu Hurayra said, "The most miserly of people is the person who is miserly with the greeting. The one who is cheated of good is the one who does not return it.

Peace is one of the Names of Allah which Allah has placed on the earth. Extend it among
you. When a man greets people and they answer him, then he has a higher degree than
them because he reminds them of peace. If no one answers him, he will be answered by one
who is better and more excellent.'" (Bukhari)

What we are suppose to say when someone wish us in bad way?

Answer is given in below hadiths of Prophet (saw) where Jews said “Death be upon you” to him and he only replied Wa alaikum.

Saheeh Muslim
Bk 26, Number 5386:
'A'isha reported that some Jews came to Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) and they said: Abu'l−Qasim (the Kunya of the Holy Prophet), as−Sam−u−'Alaikum (death be upon you), whereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Wa 'Alaikum. A'isha reported: In response to these words of theirs, I said: But let there be death upon you and disgrace also, whereupon Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: 'A'isha, do not use harsh words. She said: Did you hear what they said? Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Did I not respond to them when they said that; I said to them: Wa'Alaikum (let it be upon you).

Saheeh Bukhari
4.186: Narrated `Aisha: Once the Jews came to the Prophet and said, "Death be upon you." So I cursed them. The Prophet said, "What is the matter?" I said, "Have you not heard what they said?" The Prophet said, "Have you not heard what I replied (to them)? (I said), ('The same is upon you.')"

As a muslim we are not supposed to use harsh words and best is to say Wa alaikum (let it be upon you).

Salam was the greeting of Prophet Jesus(pbuh) as mentioned  in Bible
John
{20:19} Then the same day at evening, being the first [day] of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace [be] unto you.
{20:21} Then said Jesus to them again, Peace [be] unto you:
{20:26} And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: [then] came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace [be] unto you.
Luke
{24:36} And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace [be] unto you.

Jesus(pbuh) never spoke english. If we translate Peace be upon you in Hebrew it will be “Shalom lekm” which is almost similar to salam wa alaikum.

Hi/hello/good morning are modern terms and are far from perfect for example suppose we go to our friend’s house whose father died today can we say hi/ good morning/ have a nice day ahead????

No, but we can very well say Peace be upon you (as salam wa alaikum) in all situations.

A Story About A Marriage Meeting In Islam

Once there was a very handsome, pious, well educated young man, whose parents emphasised for him to get married. they had seen so many marriage proposals, and he had turned them all down. The parents thought it was becoming a little ridiculous or suspected that he may have someone else in mind.

However every time the parents left the girls house, the young man would always say 'she's not the one!'

The young man only wanted a girl who was religious and practicing, however one evening his mother arranged for him, to meet a girl, who was religious, and practicing.

On that evening, the young man, and girl, were left to talk, and ask each other questions. (As one would expect).

The young man, being a gentleman that he was allowed, the lady to ask first.

The young girl asked the young man so many questions, she asked about his life, his education, his friends, his family, his habits, his hobbies, his lifestyle, his enjoyment, his pastimes and his experiences.

The young man replied to all of her questions, without tiring, and politely, with a smile the young girl took up nearly all of the time, over an hour, and felt bad, and asked the young man do you have any questions?

The young man said, it's ok. I only have 3 questions...

The young girl thought, wow, only 3 questions okay, shoot.

The young man's first question was,

Who do you love the most in the world, someone who's love nothing would ever overcome?

She said, this is an easy question; my mother, he smiled

second question, he asked, you said that you read a lot of Qur'an, could you tell me which Surahs you know the meaning of?

Hearing this she went red and embarrassed and said, I do not know the

meaning of any yet, but I am hoping to soon insha'allah I've just been a bit busy.

The third question the young man asked, was I have been approached for my hand in marriage, by girls that are a lot more prettier than you, why should I marry you?

Hearing this the young girl was outraged, she stormed off to her parents with fury, and said I do not want to marry this man he is insulting my beauty and intelligence.

And the young man and his parents, were once again, left without an agreement of marriage.

This time, the young mans parents were really angry, and said what did you do to anger that girl, the family were so nice, and pleasant and they were religious like you wanted. What did you ask the girl?? Tell us!

The young man said, firstly I asked her, who do you love the most? she said, her mother,

The parents said so, what is wrong with that??

The young man said, 'no one, is Muslim, until he loves Allah, and his messenger (saw) more than anyone else in the world'

If a woman loves Allah and the Prophet (pbuh) more than anyone, she will love me and respect me, and stay faithful to me, because of that love, and fear for Allah (swt). and we can share this love, because this love is greater than lust for beauty.

The young man said, then I asked, you read a lot of Qur'an, can you tell me the meaning of any Surah?

And she said no, because I haven't had time yet. so I thought of that hadith 'ALL humans, are dead except for those who have knowledge'

She has lived 20 years and not found ANY time, to seek knowledge, why would I marry a woman, who does not know her rights, and responsibilities, and what will she teach my children, except how to be negligent, because the woman IS the madrasa (school) and the best of teachers.

And a woman who has no time for Allah, will not have time for her husband.

The third question I asked her was, that a lot of girls, more prettier than her, had approached me for marriage, why should I choose you?

That is why she stormed off, getting angry.

The young man's parents said that is a horrible thing to say, why would you do such a thing, we are going back there to apologise.

The young man said I said this on purpose, to test whether she could control her anger.

The Prophet (saw) said 'do not get angry, do not get angry, do not angry' when asked how to become pious; because anger is from Satan.

If a woman cannot control her anger with a stranger she has just met, do you think she will be able to control it with her husband??

So, the moral of this story is, a marriage is based on,
knowledge, not looks,

practice, not preaching,

Forgiveness, not anger,

spiritual love, not lust.

and compromise

One should look for a person who

1) Has love for Allah (swt) and the messenger (saw)

2) Has knowledge of the deen, and can act upon it.

3) can control her anger and another important and crucial factor. that she be

4) willing to compromise.

And it goes both ways, so women seeking a man, should look for the same things.

Insha'allah, may Allah make every marriage a success, and let us create Love for Allah and his messenger(saw) so that Allah can bless us, and create love in our lives.

Our beloved prophet (may peace be upon him) said

There is no better structure founded in Islam other than marriage.

Who is your role model ..??

Being the final Prophet of God, Prophet Muhammad has been endowed with a life that is an epitome of success. He was born an orphan and rose to become a ruler of integrity. Each of the different phases of his life provides examples for anyone who wishes to emulate it for righteous living.
The Prophet’s character alone is a paragon of ...virtue, a model for all men.
Allah says to the reader of the Quran:
You have indeed in the Messenger of God (Muhammad) a beautiful pattern (of conduct) for any one whose hope is God and the Final Day. (33:21)

Ali Akbar, in his book “God and Man”, says: “Great minds and teachers like Buddha and Christ could not present their lives as models for mankind to follow. One left the family while the other had none. One severed his connections with the worldly affairs altogether and the other had never entered into them. Their teachings are lofty but can be followed only by those who live an ascetic life like them. The human progress in acquiring knowledge of the Creator and the Universe and mastering elements and scientific research could never be possible if all people lived ascetic lives, and the world would come to an end in one generation as far as human beings are concerned if all practised celibacy. God Who is the Creator of mankind could not depute persons to advocate principles contrary to the laws laid down by Him for the procreation of His creatures.

“But the great model Muhammad presents all phases of life to follow. As an orphan, as a shepherd, as a son, as a nephew, as father, as grandfather, as husband, as a citizen, as a neighbour, as a humanitarian and lover to children and orphans, as supporter and free worker for poor widows and needy persons, as tolerant teacher never offending susceptibilities or beliefs of others, as conqueror, as forgiver of those who persecuted him after they came under his power by his example of forgiving the people of Mecca who had ruthlessly persecuted him, as master of those who came to him as slaves by freeing them at once, as a ruler and a teacher of good treatment which should be meted to those who differ from you in religion when they come under your protection by his own example, as the first giver in the world to women a right of full possession of property and inheritance from parents, sons, brothers and sisters and other relations; and in many other respects a model.

The First Caliph, Abu Bakr (R.A.)

The First Caliph, Abu Bakr (R.A.)

"If I were to take a friend other than my Lord, I would take Abu Bakr as a friend." (Hadith)

Election to the Caliphate

The Prophet's closest Companion, Abu Bakr, was not present when the Holy Prophet (peace be on him) breathed his last in the apartment of his beloved wife of later years, Aisha, Abu Bakr's daughter. When he came to know of the Prophet's passing, Abu Bakr hurried to the house of sorrow.

"How blessed was your life and how beatific is your death," he whispered as he kissed the cheek of his beloved friend and master who now was no more.

When Abu Bakr came out of the Prophet's apartment and broke the news, disbelief and dismay gripped the community of Muslims in Medina. Muhammad (peace be on him) had been the leader, the guide and the bearer of Divine revelation through whom they had been brought from idolatry and barbarism into the way of God. How could he die? Even Umar, one of the bravest and strongest of the Prophet's Companions, lost his composure and drew his sword and threatened to kill anyone who said that the Prophet was dead. Abu Bakr gently pushed him aside, ascended the steps of the lectern in the mosque and addressed the people, saying,

"O people, verily whoever worshipped Muhammad, behold! Muhammad is indeed dead. But whoever worships God, behold! God is alive and will never die."

And then he concluded with a verse from the Qur'an:
"And Muhammad is but a Messenger. Many Messengers have gone before him; if then he dies or is killed, will you turn back upon your heels?"3:144

On hearing these words, the people were consoled. Despondency gave place to confidence and tranquility. This critical moment had passed. But the Muslim community was now faced with an extremely serious problem: that of choosing a leader. After some discussion among the Companions of the Prophet who had assembled in order to select a leader, it became apparent that no one was better suited for this responsibility than Abu Bakr. A portion of the speech the First Caliph gave after his election has already been quoted in the introduction.

Abu Bakr's Life
Abu Bakr ('The Owner of Camels') was not his real name. He acquired this name later in life because of his great interest in raising camels. His real name was Abdul Ka'aba ('Slave of Ka'aba'), which Muhammad (peace be on him) later changed to Abdullah ('Slave of God'). The Prophet also gave him the title of 'Siddiq' - 'The Testifier to the Truth.'

Abu Bakr was a fairly wealthy merchant, and before he embraced Islam, was a respected citizen of Mecca. He was three years younger than Muhammad (peace be on him) and some natural affinity drew them together from earliest child hood. He remained the closest Companion of the Prophet all through the Prophet's life. When Muhammad first invited his closest friends and relatives to Islam, Abu Bakr was among the earliest to accept it. He also persuaded Uthman and Bilal to accept Islam. In the early days of the Prophet's mission, when the handful of Muslims were subjected to relentless persecution and torture, Abu Bakr bore his full share of hardship. Finally when God's permission came to emigrate from Mecca, he was the one chosen by the Prophet to accompany him on the dangerous journey to Medina. In the numerous battles which took place during the life of the Prophet, Abu Bakr was always by his side. Once, he brought all his belongings to the Prophet, who was raising money for the defense of Medina. The Prophet asked "Abu Bakr, what did you leave for your family?" The reply came: "God and His Prophet."

Even before Islam, Abu Bakr was known to be a man of upright character and amiable and compassionate nature. All through his life he was sensitive to human suffering and kind to the poor and helpless. Even though he was wealthy, he lived very simply and spent his money for charity, for freeing slaves and for the cause of Islam. He often spent part of the night in supplication and prayer. He shared with his family a cheerful and affectionate home life.

Abu-Bakr's Caliphate
Such, then, was the man upon whom the burden of leadership fell at the most sensitive period in the history of the Muslims.

As the news of the Prophet's death spread, a number of tribes rebelled and refused to pay Zakat (poor-due), saying that this was due only to the Prophet (peace be on him). At the same time a number of impostors claimed that the prophethood had passed to them after Muhammad and they raised the standard of revolt. To add to all this, two powerful empires, the Eastern Roman and the Persian, also threatened the new-born Islamic state at Medina.

Under these circumstances, many Companions of the Prophet, including Umar, advised Abu Bakr to make concessions to the Zakat evaders, at least for a time. The new Caliph disagreed. He insisted that the Divine Law cannot be divided, that there is no distinction between the obligations of Zakat and Salat (prayer), and that any compromise with the injunctions of God would eventually erode the foundations of Islam. Umar and others were quick to realize their error of judgment. The revolting tribes attacked Medina but the Muslims were prepared. Abu Bakr himself led the charge, forcing them to retreat. He then made a relentless war on the false claimants to prophethood, most of whom submitted and again professed lslam.

The threat from the Roman Empire had actually arisen earlier, during the Prophet's lifetime. The Prophet had organized an army under the command of Usama, the son of a freed slave. The army had not gone far when the Prophet had fallen ill so they stopped. After the death of the Prophet the question was raised whether the army should be sent again or should remain for the defence of Medina. Again Abu Bakr showed a firm determination. He said, "I shall send Usama's army on its way as ordered by the Prophet, even if I am left alone."

The final instructions he gave to Usama prescribed a code of conduct in war which remains unsurpassed to this day. Part of his instructions to the Muslim army were:

"Do not be deserters, nor be guilty of disobedience. Do not kill an old man, a woman or a child. Do not injure date palms and do not cut down fruit trees. Do not slaughter any sheep or cows or camels except for food. You will encounter persons who spend their lives in monasteries. Leave them alone and do not molest them."

Khalid bin Waleed had been chosen by the Prophet (peace be on him) on several occasions to lead Muslim armies. A man of supreme courage and a born leader, his military genius came to full flower during the Caliphate of Abu Bakr. Throughout Abu Bakr's reign Khalid led his troops from one victory to another against the attacking Romans.

Another contribution of Abu Bakr to the cause of Islam was the collection and compilation of the verses of the Qur'an.

Abu Bakr died on 21 Jamadi-al Akhir, 13 A.H. (23 August 634 A.C.), at the age of sixty-three, and was buried by the side of the Holy Prophet (peace be on him). His caliphate had been of a mere twenty-seven months duration. In this brief span, however, Abu Bakr had managed, by the Grace of God, to strengthen and consolidate his community and the state, and to secure the Muslims against the perils which had threatened their existence.

The History of Valentine Day ... Kufr

Let us examine the origin of Valentine’s Day:

Valentine's Day started in the time of the Roman Empire. In ancient Rome, February 14th was a holiday to honor Juno. Juno was the Queen of the Roman Gods and Goddesses. The Romans also knew her as the Goddess of women and marriage. The following day, February 15th, began the Feast of Lupercalia.

Under the rule of Emperor Claudius II Rome was involved in many bloody and unpopular campaigns. Claudius the Cruel was having a difficult time getting soldiers to join his military leagues and creating a huge army. Many men did not want to participate in the army. This made Claudius furious. He believed that the reason for this was that roman men did not want to leave their loved ones or their families. As a result, Claudius decided to cancel all marriages and engagements in Rome. Many people thought this was a preposterous and a cruel idea.

At that time, a Saint existed by the name of Valentine who was a priest of Rome in the days of Claudius II. He did not like the Emperor. He and Saint Marius aided the Christian martyrs and secretly married couples even after Emperor Claudius passed his law. He would isolate himself in a secret candlelit room with the bride and the groom. He whispered the words of the ceremony, listening all the while for the steps of the soldiers.

One night, he heard the footsteps of the soldiers and the couples he was marrying escaped in time. Unfortunately he was caught. For this action of his, Saint Valentine was apprehended and dragged before the Prefect of Rome, who condemned him to be beaten to death with clubs and to have his head cut off. He was then thrown in prison and was told that his punishment was sentenced to death. The news spread and many young people came from across the land to visit him in prison. They threw flowers and notes up to the window. One of the young people was the daughter of the prison guard. Her father allowed her to visit Saint Valentine in the cell. Sometimes they would sit and talk for hours. She helped him in keeping up his spirits. She agreed that he had done the right thing by ignoring the Emperor and going ahead with the secret marriages. Saint Valentine had fallen in love with her and on the day he was to die, he left his little friend a note thanking her for her friendship and loyalty. He signed it, “Love from your Valentine.”

Saint Valentine died on February 14, 269 A.D. Since then, every year people from all over the world commemorate this day as “Valentine’s Day”. At that time it was the custom in Rome, a very ancient custom, indeed, to celebrate in the month of February the Lupercalia, feasts in honor of a heathen god. On these occasions, amidst a variety of pagan ceremonies, the names of young women were placed in a box, from which they were drawn by the men as chance directed.

On the eve of the festival of Lupercalia, the names of Roman girls were written on slips of paper and placed into jars. Each young man would draw a girl's name from the jar and would then be partners for the duration of the festival with the girl whom he chose. Sometimes the pairing of the children lasted an entire year, and often, they would fall in love and would later marry.

It has been believed that the custom of exchanging love notes had started on Valentine’s Day.

Valentine Traditions
Hundreds of years ago in England, many children dressed up as adults on Valentine's Day. They went singing from home to home. One verse they sang was:

Good morning to you, valentine;
Curl your locks as I do mine ---
Two before and three behind.
Good morning to you, valentine.

In Wales, wooden love spoons were carved and given as gifts on February 14th. Hearts, keys and keyholes were favourite decorations on the spoons. The decoration meant, "You unlock my heart!"

In the Middle Ages, young men and women drew names from a bowl to see who their valentines would be. They would wear these names on their sleeves for one week. Wearing the heart on the sleeve made it is easy for other people to know how they were feeling. In some countries, a young woman may receive a gift of clothing from a young man. If she kept the gift, it meant that she would marry him.

From the history of Valentine’s Day, we acknowledge that Valentine is not just a name of a holiday. In fact, Valentine was a man whom the Christians believe to be a saint. Moreover, the history of Valentine is based on Shirk. In addition to this, the actions committed by the young boys and girls,[1] were purely the acts of fornication.

Islam is a religion of peace, love and unity. In Islam, there is no special day to express gratitude and love. In fact, everyday is a day to express love to one’s wife, children, parents, elders etc. Islam has ordered us to be kind and just with our family members and close ones to the extent that even animals deserve love and affection. A beautiful Hadith of Rasullullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam explains that Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’alā had forgiven an immoral and a prostitute woman due to her kindness towards a thirsty dog.

“There was a dog who was circling a well. Thirst had nearly killed him when a prostitute from amongst the prostitutes of Bani Israeel had seen him. She removed her shoes and quenched the dog. Thereupon, she was forgiven due this action of hers.”

(Sahih Al-Bukhari 4/173)

We should show love to our loved ones everyday of our lives. Our love should not be confined to a particular date such as the 14th of February. A person receives tremendous amount of reward simply by placing a morsel in the mouth of one’s wife. Imagine the reward for other good deeds. The Hadith mentions:

“And you spend not upon your family seeking the pleasure of Allah but that you are rewarded for it to the extent of placing a morsel in the mouth of your wife.”

(Sahih Al-Bukhari 5/178)

However, due to the fact that the foundation of celebrating Valentine’s Day is based on kufr and shirk, such a celebration is Harām and prohibited in Islam.

Wearing one’s clothes below the ankles (isbaal)

Praise be to Allaah.

Many ahaadeeth were reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) which forbid isbaal (wearing one’s clothes below the ankles), for example:

Al-Bukhaari reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Whatever of the izaar (lower garment) is below the ankles is in the Fire."
(al-Bukhaari, no. 5787)

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "There are three whom Allaah will not look at or praise on the Day of Judgement and theirs will be a painful punishment: the one who wears his garment below his ankles, the one who reminds others of his favours, and the one who sells his product by means of making false oaths"
(reported by Muslim, no. 106)

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Isbaal (wearing one’s garment below the ankles) may apply to the izaar (lower garment), the shirt or the turban. Whoever allows any part of these to trail on the ground out of arrogance, Allaah will not look at him on the Day of Judgement."
(reported by Abu Dawud, no. 4085, and al-Nisaa’i, no. 5334, with a saheeh isnaad).

Ibn ‘Abbaas reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Allaah will not look at the one who wears his lower garment below his ankles." (Reported by al-Nisaa’i in al-Mujtabaa, Kitaab al-Zeenah, Baab Isbaal al-Izaar).

Hudhayfah said: "The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) took hold of the muscle of my calf (or his calf) and said, ‘This is where the izaar should stop; if you insist, it may be lower, but it should not reach the ankles.’"
(Reported by al-Tirmidhi, who said this is a saheeh hasan hadeeth; see Sunan al-Tirmidhi, no. 1783)

All of the ahaadeeth quoted above speak against isbaal, whether or not the intention is to show off; but if a person does this deliberately out of arrogance, there is no doubt that his sin is greater. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Allaah will not look at the one who trails his izaar on the ground out of pride."
(al-Bukhaari, no. 5788)

Jaabir ibn Sulaym said: "The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to me: ‘Beware of wearing one’s lower garment below the ankles, because this is a kind of showing-off, and Allaah does not love showing-off.’"
(Regarded as saheeh by al-Tirmidhi, no. 2722).

No one is able to be completely free of pride and arrogance, even if he claims that this is so. Such a claim is unacceptable, because by saying it, he is praising himself. Only in the case of those whom the wahy (revelation) testified that they were free of pride do we believe that this is the case.

What indicates that isbaal is prohibited even if it is not done out of pride is the hadeeth of Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri, may Allaah be pleased with him, who said: "The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ‘The lower garment of the Muslim should come down to mid-calf, but there is nothing wrong if it is between that point and the ankles. Whatever is lower than the ankles is in the Fire. Whoever trails his garment on the ground out of pride, Allaah will not look at him."
(Reported by Abu Dawud, no. 4093, with a saheeh isnaad.)

These ahaadeeth describe two different deeds, for which there will be two different punishments:
Imaam Ahmad reported that Abd al-Rahmaan ibn Ya’qoob said: "I asked Abu Sa’eed: ‘Did you hear anything from the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) concerning the izaar (lower garment)?’ he said, ‘Yes, listen! ‘The izaar of the believer should come to mid-calf, although there is nothing wrong if it comes between there and the ankles, but whatever is lower than the ankles is in the Fire,’ and he said it three times."

Ibn ‘Umar said: "I passed by the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), and my izaar had slipped down. He said, ‘O ‘Abdullaah, pull up your izaar!’ so I pulled it up. He said, ‘More!’ so I pulled it up more, and always made sure it was pulled up properly after that." Some people asked, "To where did you pull it up?" He said, "To mid-calf length."
(Reported by Muslim, no. 2086; al-Dhahabi, Kitaab al-Kabaa’ir, 131-132)

The punishment for showing off may come to pass in this world, not in the Hereafter. Abu Hurayrah reported that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Whilst a man was walking arrogantly admiring himself and his clothes, Allaah caused the earth to swallow him and he is suffering in it until the Day of Resurrection."
(Reported by Muslim, no. 2088).

Education- An Islamic Perspective

  Education- An Islamic Perspective

Noor Foundation organized an Educational conference at Lucknow on 24 & 25 December, I got the privilege of attending the same. Special guest was Sheikh Majid Bakri hafizzullah ta’ala (Imam of Jeddah’s Jama Masjid).  Mission of this conference was to make education more common and raise our educational standard. In this important Conference world-renowned professionals /Aalims spoke on various topics relevant for our times and they all emphasized on education of both the worlds simultaneously (duniyawi and Deeni).
Duniyawi Talim will make us successful in this world, but Deeni Talim will make us successful  in this world and hereafter too.

Now, I am sharing the experience gained through this conference.
Many big scholars came on the stage and shared views. Education should be based on Quran and Sunnah, because when we don’t use education our knowledge in a right direction it may become harmful for us. We can clearly see highly educated n qualified people indulging in crime and corruption, this is due to the fact that they are far away from Quran and Sunnah. They have gained worldly education but lost the moral and ethical education which one can gain only through study of our creator and his command.

Some of the speakers and professors give emphasis on adding subjects of modern education like English, Science, Maths etc. in the curriculum of Islamic schools and colleges. Even Madarsa student should simultaneously get higher Education so that even he can become Engineer, Technician etc and opt for alternative career instead of just restricting them to be an Imam of Masjid or Teacher of Madarsa. Vice versa those students who are getting Duniyawi education should also get Deeni Education, after this in sha allah we will be successful in both of the worlds.

Insan aur haiwan me fark sirf  ilm ka hai. Ilm jaha kahi se mile hsail  karlo, aur jaha kahi bhi jana padhe jao aur hasil karo.”

There is no limit on gaining education (ilm). Good education(Deeni and Duniyawi) makes good men, good men makes good societies, good societies makes good cities, good cities makes good states, and good states makes good nations, and good nations makes world a better place to live in. Can you imagine when this is implemented, Whole world will be well educated (deeni and duniyawi) and a better place to live in and in sha allah every one will be on TRUE PATH.

Maulana Matiurrehman chaturvedi said Quran is the ultimate syllabus for mankind. He said more than 700 verses in Quran show Scientific Signs. There is not a single subject in the world  jisme Quran ne roshni na kari ho. After studying Quran many famous (well educated) personalities (scientists etc.) accepted Islam. Educated (deeni and dunyawi)  and Uneducated people are not equal. In factories most of the child labour belongs to Muslims as they are less education or illiterate. Many speakers referred to Sachhar Committee’s report on Indian Muslims. This report reveals the backwardness of Indian Muslims. The current status of Indian Muslims is even worst than the schedule castes and schedule tribes. The overall percentage of Muslims in bureaucracy in India is just 2.5 % where as Muslims constitute above 14% of Indian population. Reason for backwardness, lack of education and most importantly we have left the Quran and Sunnah.

The Quran believes in the respect and equality of all human kind but it announces the superiority of the class of educated people. The Quran says:
“ Are the educated and uneducated equal?” In Sura Baqrah the Quran declares the superiority of Adam in these words: “ And He taught Adam, the names of all things; then He placed them before the angels and said: “ Tell me the names of these if you are right”.
They said: “ Glory to Thee: of knowledge we have none save Thou hast taught us, in truth it is Thou who art perfect in knowledge and wisdom”. (2:30-32).

Knowledge made him superior to all creatures. The first word of the revelation deals with the importance of knowledge. In Sura Al-Alaq it is said: “ Read in the name of thy Lord who created”. There is another verse of the Holy Quran asking the Prophet (P.B.U.H) to pray: “ Lord increase my knowledge”. The importance of knowledge is manifest at different places in the Quran. The Quran says that we send the Prophets to teach people wisdom. It further says that only the people of knowledge fear God. In Sura Baqrah the Quran says: “ But the best of provisions is right conduct so fear me, O ye that are wise”. (2:197).

Famous Hadith of the Holy Prophet.
The Prophet said, “Seek knowledge from the cradle to the grave.”
In another Hadith the Prophet said, “ Acquiring of knowledge is obligatory to every Muslim male and female”.
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Allah makes the way to Jannah easy for him who treads the path in search of knowledge.''
[Muslim].

Muslims have made significant contributions to the field of science and other fields of knowledge. The numerals we use are called the Arab numerals. Credit for the invention of decimal system also goes to Muslims. They had made great contributions to the field of Mathematics. Algebra is the invention of Arab Muslims. They had also made significant contributions to the fields of Medicine and Astronomy.  One of the biggest contribution of Muslims to the world is the preservation of Greek knowledge. All the work of Greek philosophers and thinkers was saved by the Arabs, by translating it into Arabic. That knowledge was passed back to the Europeans. Dr. Maurice Bucaille in a book entitled, “The Bible, The Quran and Science” proves that Islam is a scientific religion emphasizing on the need of scientific inquiry.

The real knowledge makes us tolerant, civilized and rational. In Islamic jurisprudence no one can become Faqih (Jurist) without sound intellectual background. Whether someone is a scientist, a ruler, a leader or a jurist, knowledge is the basic requirement for these positions. Islamic conception of education teaches us to be the master of matter and mind to serve the human kind.

Why I Don't Celebrate Birthdays....

Why I Don't Celebrate Birthdays....

by Nisaar Y. Nadiadwala on Monday, February 28, 2011 at 9:32am

From next week onwards the top right corner of your Face Book Wall will remind you for a few days that Nisaar Yusuf's birthday falls on 10 March. Well, I know there are many people in this world who are happy that I share some space in this world with them and some even accommodate me in their hearts and their supplications.

Come along with me and have a little different look at the birthdays from a different angle. Here we go:

The first two verses from Surah Ambiya frighten me on my each birthday: Closer has come to mankind their day of accounts and they are still heedless! They listen with ridicule to each fresh warning that comes to them from their Lord and remain engaged in the sports! (World cup cricket, Grand Slams Olympics, World cup Soccer.....) The Surah further reminds us the plight of a few nations before us who were humiliated and driven out of the world through a dreadful punishment, never can they come back.

Next time when some one wishes you a happy birthday, ask him: Are you happy that I have lost a precious year form my life and I am on the way to death?

Let us see who are the people whose birthdays are celebrated and Why?

Pharaoh, the Egyptian king, celebrated his birthday by executing his chief baker
(Genesis. 40:1-23)

The New Testament figure Herod the Tetrarch reluctantly ordered the beheading of John the Baptist on his birthday(Mattew 14:3-11).

Gandhiji's Birthday is celebrated on 2 October, Sri Krishna’s Birthday is celebrated on Gokulastmi, Buddha's Birthday is celebrated in Vesak, Ambedkar's Birthday is celebrated on 14 April, and so is Mahavir's Birthday celebrated on Bhadrapad and also Rama's Birthday is celebrated in the month of April as Ramnavami. Jesus Christ's Birthday is celebrated on 25 Dec.

If you study the list of these big people whose birthdays are celebrated you will notice three striking points: 1. Many of them are worshipped as Gods by their followers

2. Those who are not worshipped as Gods are feared to be forgotten by the later generations if no one reminds about them

3. Barring people born in the past century, i.e Gandhiji and Ambedkar, there are no records of the birthdays of the rest of the birthdays celebrated! They are only un mathematical assumptions.

Even the birth date of Jesus Christ goes unrecorded in the Bible!

Celebrating birthdays is not the custom of Ahl e kitab but Pagans

Study any reputable encyclopedia or visit a well-stocked public library and you will discover that Christmas was celebrated by immoral, pagan idol worshippers—people who many times sacrificed their own children to pagan gods—2,000 years before Christ was born! December 25th originally marked the time of the winter solstice. These idol worshippers held pagan festivals to celebrate the “rebirth” of the sun when the days began to lengthen.

In fact, the Bible is silent on the exact dates of the births of all God’s faithful servants—Jacob, Sarah, Noah, Abel, Samuel, Job, Esther, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Moses and the rest of the good people.

Do we require to celebrate the birthday of our Prophet (pbuh) too ?

My Prophet (Allah's peace and mercy be upon him) never celebrated his birthday, though some people celebrate his birthday. Their brand of celebration includes screaming their love towards the Prophet (pbuh) and cursing those who don’t join them in their celebrations. If you have noticed minutely, this year the pomp and show was brighter than the past years but the crowd has surely shrunk. Even the companions did not celebrate the Prophet's birthday. Rather, they celebrated his prophet hood in every part of their life by adhering to his commands and traditions. We also accommodate him in our salahs by reciting the Durood upon him before we end the salah.

According to the sixth edition of The Columbia Encyclopedia (2000), Muhammad is the most common given name in the world, including variations. It is estimated that more than 150 million men and boys in the world bear the name Muhammad.

What a memorable way of keeping his memories alive!

Infact it is not important when you were born but how you live your life that matters.

Why Did The Imams Differ?

Why Did The Imams Differ?

By: Sheikh ul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah

This article is taken from the beginning of Shaikh ul-Islam's (r) treatise "Raf'-ul-Malaam  'an-il-A'immat-il-A'laam" (Removing the Harms from the Noble Imaams). In this treatise, the Shaikh  (ra) discusses the reasons why the famous and righteous Imaams, that are followed by the masses of  Muslims, differed in some issues and contradicted the established ahaadeeth of the Messenger of  Allaah (s) in some cases. He lists over ten reasons in the introduction of this treatise. However this  article only contains the first one. However, it is the most important one, as stated by Ibn Taimiyyah  (ra). And it is for this reason, as the Shaikh says, that many of the Imaam's opinions, that contradict  the Sunnah, can be explained and acknowledged. Thus, there is no deficiency on the part of our  scholars. Rather, they were rewarded in their correctness as well as in their errors. May Allaah have  mercy on them. The notes were taken from Zuhair Ash-Shaaweesh's comments and footnotes to this treatise, unless otherwise specified.

All praise is due to Allaah for His countless blessings. I bear witness that none has the right to be  worshipped except Allaah, He stands alone and with no partners, whether on His earth or in His  heavens. And I bear witness that Muhammad (s) is His slave, Messenger and the last of His prophets.  May Allaah send His eternal peace and continuous blessings upon him, his family and his companions  until the Day when we shall all meet Him. To proceed:

It is binding upon the Muslims, after declaring loyalty to Allaah and his Messenger (s), to declare loyalty to the believers as is stated by the Qur'aan. This especially includes the scholars, for they are  the inheritors of the prophets. And they are the ones whom Allaah has given the status of bearing the  similitude of stars, throughwhich guidance is achieved in times of darkness, on land and on sea. The  Muslims of this nation have agreed upon their guidance and their knowledge.

Before the advent of our Prophet (s), the scholars of every nation were the worst of its people. But  this is not the case with the Muslims, for indeed their scholars are the best from among them. They  are the delegated successors of the Messenger r in regards to his nation and they are the ones who  revive what has been caused to die from his (s) Sunnah. It is through them that the Qur'aan is  established and through it, they are established. Through them the Qur'aan is articulated and through  it, they are articulated.

It must be known that there is not one scholar, who is accepted widely and willfully by the  ummah, that purposely intends to oppose the Messenger of Allaah (s) in any aspect of his (ra) Sunnah, whether  small or large. For indeed, they all agree on the obligation of following the Messenger r upon a firm  and certain understanding. They also agree that one can accept or reject the statement of any individual from mankind, except that of the Messenger of Allaah (s). [1]
Therefore when it is found that an opinion, held by one of them, contradicts an authentic  hadeeth,
there is no doubt that excuses must be made for him, in explanation to his abandoning of it. These
excuses can be divided into three
Page 1
categories:
1. The lack of his believing that the Prophet (s) said it
2. The lack of his believing that particular issue was affected by that statement
3. His belief that that ruling was abrogated
These three categories can be subdivided into numerous reasons:
The First Reason: The Hadith Did Not Reach Him
Anyone that does not have a hadeeth reach him is not responsible for being knowledgeable about its
obligation. Thus, if a hadeeth was not conveyed to him, and he formulated an opinion for that issue
based on either the apparentness of an obligating ayah, another hadeeth, the necessity of Qiyaas or the
need for Istishaab [2], then sometimes he may be in agreement with that  hadeeth and at other times he
may contradict it.
For the most part, it is due to this reason that many of the statements of the Salaf have gone in
contradiction to the reports mentioned in some ahaadeeth. For certainly, it is not possible for anyone
in this ummah to completely grasp (all) of the hadeeth of the Messenger of Allaah (s).
The Prophet (s) would narrate hadeeth, issue religious verdicts, pass judgements or conduct other
matters, and whosoever was present there would hear him or see him. These people would then
convey that (information) to other groups or to just some individuals whom they would reach. So
knowledge of that affair would end up with whomsoever  Allaah willed, from the scholars among the
Sahaabah, the Taabi'een and those who came after them.
Then in another gathering, he s would again narrate hadeeth, issue religious verdicts, pass judgements
or conduct other matters. And some of the people that were absent from the first gathering would
witness it. They would then convey it to whomsoever they were able to convey it to. So these
individuals would possess some knowledge that those people did not and those people would possess
some knowledge that these individuals did not. And verily, the scholars among the Sahaabah and
those after them were only distinguished from one another due to who possessed more knowledge or
who bore its excellence. As for whether one single person can encompass all of the hadeeth of the
Messenger of Allaah (s), then this claim is impossible.
An example of this is seen in the rightly guided khaleefahs, who were the most knowledgeable of the
ummah concerning the affairs of the Messenger of Allaah (s), his Sunnah and his states of being. This
is especially so with Abu Bakr As-Siddeeq (r) who never separated from the Prophet (s), whether he
(s) was present or on a journey. Rather, he was with him the majority of the time, even to the point
that he used to spend nights talking to him about the affairs of the Muslims. This goes the same for
'Umar Ibn Al-Khattaab (r), for the Prophet (s) would say many times:"Abu Bakr, 'Umar and I
entered" and "Abu Bakr, 'Umar and I left"
In spite of this, when Abu Bakr (r) was asked on the inheritance of the grandmother, he (r) said:
"There is nothing for you in the Book of Allaah nor have I learned of anything from the Sunnah of the
Messenger of Allaah (s) that is for you. However, I will ask the people."So he asked them and Al
Page 2
Mugheerah Ibn Shu'bah (r) and Muhammad Ibn Maslamah (r) stood up and testified "that the Prophet
has given her a sixth (of the inheritance)." [3] This aspect of the Sunnah was conveyed to 'Imraan Ibn
Husain (r), also.
These three individuals were not equal to Abu Bakr nor to any of the other (four rightly guided)
khaleefahs in terms of knowledge. However, they were specifically characterized with knowledge of
this Sunnah of which its acting upon has been agreed on by the ummah.
Likewise, 'Umar (r) did not know the Sunnah for asking permission to enter a household, until he was
informed of it by Abu Moosaa Al-Asha'aree (r), who called on the Ansaar as witnesses. [5] This was
even though 'Umar (r) possessed more knowledge than the one who told him of this aspect of the
Sunnah.
Also, 'Umar (r) did not know that a woman was supposed to inherit from her (deceased) husband's
blood money, but instead he held the opinion that the blood money belonged to the 'Aaqilah [6]. This
was until Ad-Dahhaak Ibn Sufyaan Al-Kulaabee, who was a leader of some Bedouin Arabs
(Al-Bawaadee) for the Messenger of Allaah (s), wrote to him and informed him that: "The Messenger
of Allaah (s) gave the wife of Ashyam Ad-Dabaabee, inheritance from the blood money of her
(deceased) husband." [7] So he abandoned his opinion in favor of that (hadeeth) and said: "Had we
not heard of this, we would have ruled in opposition to it."
Also, he t did not know the regulations of the Majoos in regards to their payment of the jizyah (money
tribute). This was until 'Abd-ur-Rahmaan Ibn 'Awf t informed him that the Messenger of Allaah r
said: "Treat them like the people of the House (Ka'bah)." [8]
And when 'Umar arrived at Sargh [9] and news reached him that there was a plague in  Shaam, he first
sought counsel from the Muhaajireen that were with him, then from the  Ansaar, then from the
Muslims that were present at the Conquest (of Makkah). Everyone of them advised him (r) according
to his own personal opinion and not one of them informed him of the Sunnah (in regards to this
situation). This was until 'Abd-ur-Rahmaan Ibn 'Awf (r) arrived and informed him of the Sunnah of
the Messenger of Allaah (s) concerning plagues and that he (s) said: "If it breaks out in a land while
you are in it, then do not leave from it by fleeing. And if you hear news that it has broken out in a
land, then do not go near it." [10]
And he (r) and Ibn 'Abbaas were reminded of what should be done when one has doubt in his prayer
as to whether or not he has broken his ablution. And the Sunnah for that affair was not conveyed to
him (r), until 'Abd-ur-Rahmaan Ibn 'Awf (r) informed him that the Prophet (s) would "Cast away all
doubts and work upon that which he was certain of." [11]
And one time 'Umar (r) was on a journey when a wind began to blow violently, so he began to say:
"Who will narrate to us a hadeeth concerning the wind?" Abu Hurairah (r) said: "News of this reached
me while I was in the last rows of people (on the journey), so I hurried my riding animal until I
reached him. Then I narrated to him, what the Prophet (s) commanded should be done at the time
when the wind is blowing."  [12]
In these instances, 'Umar did not have knowledge of these matters, until those who were not equal to
him in terms of knowledge, conveyed it to him. In other instances, the aspect of the Sunnah (which he
Page 3
did not know of) was not conveyed to him and so he ruled or gave a verdict in opposition to it. This is
such as when he gave a ruling concerning the blood tribute to be paid for the (loss of one's) fingers;
that they vary according to their uses. In spite of this, Abu Moosaa and Ibn 'Abbaas (r) , who were
much lower than him in knowledge, knew that the Prophet (s) said: "This and this are equal" meaning
the thumb and the little finger.  [13] This aspect of the Sunnah was also conveyed to Mu'awiyah (r)
during his leadership and so he judged according to it, and the Muslims found no other alternative but
to follow that. So this hadeeth was not a sign of deficiency in 'Umar (r) , for the hadeeth did not reach
him.
Also, he (r) as well as his son 'Abdullaah Ibn 'Umar and other righteous people used to forbid the
muhrim (one in state of Ihraam) from putting on perfume, before going into the state of Ihraam and
before the Ifaadah to Makkah, after the casting of the pebbles at 'Aqabah. And the hadeeth of
'Aa'ishah did not reach them in which she said: "I perfumed the Messenger of Allaah (s) for the
occasion of his Ihraam before he performed it and for his hill (disembarking from the state of Ihraam),
before he did tawaaf (circumambulating)." [14]
Likewise, he used to command the one who was wearing  khuffs to wipe over them (during ablution),
even if he had sandals on, without restricting a fixed period of time for doing it. Many of the Salaf
followed him in that matter and they were not conveyed the  ahaadeeth in which the time period (for
its validity) is mentioned. And these ahaadeeth are authentically transmitted by some of the
companions who were not of equivalent status to him in knowledge. Furthermore, information on this
matter has been reported on the Messenger of Allaah (s) through numerous authentic narrations. [15]
The same goes for 'Uthmaan (r) for he did not possess knowledge that the woman whose husband
passed away was to complete her 'iddah (waiting period) in her (deceased) husband's home. This was
until he heard the hadeeth of Furai'ah Bint Maalik, the sister of Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudree, in regards to
her situation when her husband died. And it was that the Prophet (s) told her: "Remain in your
(husband's) home until the fixed period of time has been completed." So 'Uthmaan (r) based his
opinion on this (hadeeth). [16]
And one time he was given some hunting game, which was caught just for his purpose, as a gift. So
he was about to eat it, when 'Alee Ibn Abee Taalib (r) informed him that: "The Prophet (s) returned
some meat that was presented to him as a gift." [17]
Similarly, 'Alee (r) said: "Whenever I heard a statement (hadeeth) come from Allaah's Messenger (s),
Allaah benefited me with what He willed for me to benefit from it. However, when I heard a
statement come from anyone else, I would make him take an oath on it, so if he would swear on it to
me, I would then believe him. And once Abu Bakr related a hadeeth to me, and he spoke truthfully"
Then he (r) mentioned the famous hadeeth of the prayer of repentance." [18]
Also he, 'Ibn 'Abbaas and others declared the ruling that the woman whose husband dies while she
was pregnant, had to complete the longer of the two waiting periods. And the Sunnah of the
Messenger of Allaah (s) concerning this matter in the case of Subai'ah Al-Aslamiyyah did not reach
them. For when her husband, Sa'ad Ibn Khaulah (r), died, the Prophet (s) ruled that"her waiting
period is to endure until she gives birth." [19]
Also, he (r) along with Zaid, Ibn 'Umar and others ruled that a women that is married to a man while
Page 4
being in another land, if her husband dies, that she receives no dowry. In this example, the Sunnah of
the Messenger of Allaah (s) concerning the case of Barwa' Bint Waashiq did not reach them. [20]
Discussion on this topic is extremely vast, such that the reports on the companions of the Messenger
of Allaah (s) concerning it are numerous and many. As for the reports concerning its occurrence with
other than them, from those who came after them, then taking account of all of them is impossible,
for verily they reach the level of thousands. And it must be kept in mind that these four companions
were the most knowledgeable, the most understanding, the most submissive and fearing, as well as
the most virtuous from the entire ummah. And those who came after them are much lower than them
in this regard, thus, it is more likely that some aspects of the Sunnah would be unknown to them. And
this needs no explanation.
So whoever believes that every hadeeth that was conveyed to one of the Imaams or to one specific
Imaam, is authentic, then he is mistaken. And that is a vile and detestable mistake.
And no one should say: "Indeed (all) the hadeeth were transcribed in books and collected, so how
could it be hidden from anyone?" This statement is far from correct for indeed these transcription of
ahaadeeth, which are well-known in the books of Sunnah, were only collected after the death and
disappearance of these Imaams whom are followed by the people, may Allaah have mercy on them. In
spite of this, it is not permissible for it to be claimed that all of the hadeeth of the Messenger of Allaah
(s) are limited to certain specified books. And even if one were to limit all of the hadeeth of the
Messenger of Allaah (s) to such, then still, everything that was in these books was not known to a
scholar, nor can this be attained by anyone. Rather there would be with one man, many records of
transcribed ahaadeeth and he would not be able to grasp all that was in them. Rather, the ones who
existed before these books of transcribed ahaadeeth were collected, were much more knowledgeable
of the Sunnah than those who came after them. This is because a lot of what was conveyed to them
and considered authentic in their opinion, did not reach us except with a narrator that was unknown
or with a cut chain of narration or it was not conveyed to us in its complete form. Thus the place
where they would transcribe the ahaadeeth was in their hearts and there would be vast amounts of
these recorded transcriptions held within them. This is one matter from the knowledge of legal
rulings, of which there is no doubt.
And no one should say: "Anyone that doesn't know all of the ahaadeeth cannot be a mujtahid." This is
because if it were a condition for a mujtahid to have knowledge of everything that the Prophet (s) said
and did concerning matters related to rulings, then this ummah would never see this type of mujtahid.
Indeed, the extent of a scholar is only: that he knows a majority or a great part of theahaadeeth, such
that there does not remain anything unknown to him except for a few cases from the general whole. It
is only then that these few cases from the general whole (that are unknown to him), can oppose what
has reached and been conveyed to him from knowledge.

Al-Albaanee said: "It is that which Muslim has reported in his Saheeh from 'Aa'ishah t that she said: "When the wind would blow violently, the Prophet (s) would say: "O Allaah, I ask You for the good of it, the good of what is found in it and the good of what You send with it. And I seek refuge in You from the evil of it, the evil of what is found in it and the evil of what You send with it." And it is what Abu Dawood and Ibn Maajah have reported on Abu Hurairah (r) that he heard the Messenger of Allaah (s) say:"The wind is form the spirit (rooh) of Allaah. It comes with mercy and it comes with punishment. So if you see it, then do not revile it. But (instead) ask Allaah for the good of it and seek refuge in Allaah from the evil of it."
